My car have been out of action for quite a while now. In February this year, I had a major coolant leak. Luckily I was driving into my garage, the car hasn't moved out of there since then. It was good timing for the engine to over heat as I parked in my garage. The coolant was jetting out hard.

It was leaking from one of the metal coolant pipes joining the turbos. It's the pipes with the metal split block, has lots of bends. My brother-in-law, who used to be a mechanic, offered to fix the problem. He took the pipes out, took it to Lennock Nissan dealer, and ordered the pipe. The pipe had to come from Japan, lead time was 1 month. In March, the pipe arrived.... it looked completely different.

The Nissan guy thought he ordered the wrong one, we checked the chasis numbers, etc and we ordered another one from Japan again.... lead time was 1 month again. In April (just about a week ago), the pipe arrived but it was the same one. So my bro-in-law compared it with one from another R32. We found that we have been ordering the right one, but the pipes on mines weren't stock.

The pipe set which comes with mounting block, cost around $200. We returned the wrong pipes and decided to custom make the pipe. Two month has passed, with nothing has done.

This week, he then went to Enzed in Fyshwick. He asked them if they can get one custom made this week. Next day, Enzed had the pipe, it was so quick.... They said that they made it. But It was the exact same one Lennock Nissan had... not surprisingly, there were already 2 in stock which were ordered by us. Enzed was going to charge us over $400 for them.

So we are trying another place to get the pipes made.

While we are at it, we'll be replacing timing belt, water pump, coolant hoses, fuel filter, thermostat, rocker cover gasket, oil and oil filter.

That's where my GTR is at the moment. I am keeping the car. Car is no longer for sale.

Once the car is on the road, hopefully next week... it's then rego inspection time.

Yeah, it will be a custom made job for a Pirtek or some other pipe places.

I was hoping you would see the light LOL sorry to hear about the problems, but congratulations on your decision to keep your baby.

Hi michele! Yeah, i spent some time to peel off of the little "For Sale" stickers. How is your formula holden? Have you been racing it?

The FH is going great, I'm lovin' it. I hope to get into Oz Boss before the end of the year, but need more hours before I start dicing with some of those guys. I'm targetting the last one for the year because its at Wakefield, but I would like to get down closer to 60 seconds by then if I can.

Quite a story of woe, but not unlike others I've heard for modified cars like skylines.

Pays to keep your car stock as much as possible or at least keep a full list of every modification. Previous owners always forget the small ones.

Hope to se the car back on the road.

The pipe was an after-market pipe, arriving tomorrow. *sigh*

correction: there's no rocker cover gasket on RB26.

correction, against what the Nissan part is called, RB's don't have rockers lol :D

They do use a gasket though, try part numbers 13270-58S11 & 13270-58S01

Congrats keeping the car!

Bitchin Pink tricycle!!

So how far along have you gotten with the coolant feeds for the turbo's? You say yours are custom, or non standard in some way - pics?

Where on the metal line, is it leaking from? Snot just a dodgey crush washer is it, or something that can be re-brazed.

:) that's my daughter's tricycle.

It wasn't custom made, we orginally thought it was. it was an aftermarket.

The pipes are already went in. There are two metal pipes. Each pipe has ring on one end and threaded nut pipe fitting on the other end. It has no washers. The new pipe came with teflon tape around the thread. It leaked from inside the nut. One pipe has a circular loop, the other pipe has lots of bends.

Good Work, great to hear its all coming together. I'll see you at work tommorrow.

My car is off the road at the moment, doing rear subframe bushes, subframe alignment bushes (pinapples), diff bushes, HICAS lock, new CAT, some new vacuum lines, radiator hoses.

probably also thermostat, engine temp sensor.

This is a warning, unless you are keep as mustard, mechanically talented (i.e. a mechanic) and have a multitude of tools at your diposal as well as the patience of a monk on valium then DO NOT attempt to replace the subframe bushes on your skyline. I was quoted $1200 (including the bushes) from trojan to replace the subframe bushes and I can assure you that is entirely reasonable! However, If you are keen to learn how it all works and have a fair bit of spare time as well as the previously mentioned traits then by all means go for it.

My 2c, I never want to do this again. Anyone who has the cash I would reccomend you take the car to your trusted mechanic or suspension workshop.

Hopefully the car will feel on rails once its all done.

Everything is done! Car is back on road. I'm so glad to drive the skyline again.

Rego inspection tomorrow.

Leon, hope your car is back on the road again, then we can have a "sound off" in the car park to see who can set off each other's car alarm by engine revving. :)

4 sure! I'm sure the new metalCAT will increase the volume, i just hope its not over the top, i wouldn't want it to be illegal or anything :) .

But hey the new CAT should be better on the environment, considering i had to cut the old one out, I think it was a bit past its used by date.

We'll have to have a work skidpan day!

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
