well here it is, the first sprint at Lakeside since its re-opening. And its only $99 for pre-paid entries. That's half of what we've been paying to get on the track through a couple of third parties running untimed track days there. Registered cars only for some reason. Get into it!

It might be half of what you pay with timeattack.com.au ( i assume you meant this "third party") but 3 maybe 4 runs (as per entry form) equals half of the track time. I just finished a sprint with Paul's Time attack at Lakeside and in total did about 180km of track time...........or about 45+ laps!!! I'd say thats pretty good value for money. Big thumbs up for a very good day as per usual.

But...the more trackdays at Lakeside, the better i reckon!!!

:P nothing like some healthy paranoina. third party meant just that - an organiser other than QR. There's more than just mountainrunner running track days there. I've paid similar amounts with rennen motorsport who ran the first track day there after it re-opened. They limited it to about 30 cars so we had heaps of track time - too much if you ask me. But because it wasn't timed we were allowed passengers, so that was a great chance to take the gf out on the track to see why its so addictive. It was worth it to get back out on that awesome track after so long, even though I was one of the lucky few to get a flat out blast around there in my GTR during its closure it was still a long time between drinks. but since then I've been waiting for an actual sprint event, and figured it would be around the same price, so $99 came as a very nice surprise if you ask me. I'll always take a timed sprint over a track day anytime. I know there's alot of people who just want to get out there and have fun, but for me the whole point of going to a racetrack is to see just how quick you can get your car around that track, so a time devent is always more challenging and more fun.

btw 180km of Lakeside would be about 74 laps unless the track suddenly got alot longer.

:D nothing like some healthy paranoina. Not sure what you are on about with this comment ;)

Just to clarify......It was about 45 timed laps and and closer to 74 total for the day if you include warm up and cool down laps (+ 1 emergency last minute lap delivering a fire extinguisher). The number of laps is just an approximation from the odometer reading.Total track distance according to my odometer was 177klm (i did say about 180lkm).

My first session wasn't timed as the timing was still being set up early on, but all the rest of them were. Another big thanks to the timing crew for their effort.

Not saying that i dont like seeing my own lap times, i do....but if laps times are that important, just get a lap timer. They are not that expensive. I've got one in my car......but to tell you the truth, i'm just bloody excited that Lakeside is back up and running again, timing or no timing. I'm sure there will be permanant timing facilities in place eventually, but until then, who cares....especially if its raining for half the day. :D

Bring on the next one. :(:D

Hey Vince, I have 56 timed laps at the final count (I didn't get the sheets till after everyone had left). Plus the untimed laps plus the in / out laps and your estimated travel distance is spot on. Congrats on running a super impessive 59.29 especially given the conditions.

The event was planned to be timed (if you don't believe me call up Bill, we discussed it at the May track day). I like to keep some surprises up my sleeve for the guys :ermm: I've got a few things planned for the Nissan event in July 8 also.

Can't wait to see a grid full of Nissans at the next event !!

Like I said before, I was comparing it to other events I've done since it re-opened, really nothing to do with Monday's event. but glad to hear you guys had fun and the timing gear all came together for you a couple of days before the event.

It was well planned Paul :P

The only thing I like to suggest for next time is could we have a cool down lap or 2 after each session at Lakeside next time? The track is fairly harsh on brake and I noticed that most brakes were fairly hot as people pulled up in the pit. There were no where to go to cool the car down on the middle as well.

good weather for it yesterday - the air was cool but the sun was nice and warm. We all got 4 sessions despite a number of incidents.

Tetly told us that part of the plans for the track refurb in October is to "change the cambers" on the track, which in my opinion will ruin the place. The camber changes through the corners (particularly the exit of Caruosell and Hungary's) are a huge part of the character of the place and what makes it such a challenging track. Flattening out those camber changes will only detract from the place. It might make it safer for novices, but its a racetrack FFS. Its supposed to challenge you a bit.

I ran a best of 1:03.5 which I'm pretty happy with for a standard Supra with Teins, exhaust and pod on Federal road tyres. I haven't seen the full results yet. Can't wait to get the Datsun out there and see what it can do.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
