how much did your mate pay for his car?

stamp duty in qld is calculated at #.5% of the value, therefore you gotta pay $3.50 every $100 dollars you pay for the car.. WA prob has different rules regarding the stamp duty.. CAUSE THATS THE GOVT FOR YA

Stamp duty applies to most assets that undergo a change of ownership, its a tax taken by the government to fund our country (in theory)

Im not against stamp duty but i think the amounts we pay are ridiculuous, if in fact the stamp duty is higher in WA its probably because less assets are changing hands therefore the premium is higher.

a drug dealer will add cutters and fillers to his drugs to build up its mass after a major drug bust hurts his profits.

btw: its noones business how much u paid for the car hence just put 'skyline coupe' on the transfer form and say u paid 12,000 for it rather than 49

I cant, the invoice and transfer of the car is send from the import company.

If its a case of 3.5 for every 100, that would mean my stamp duty would be about 1700, yet its twice that, so is there any reason why the stamp duty in WA is this ridiculous?

I ran them up and they quoted me 3400, i used the website and it quoted me 3145 or something like that. Just very annoying seen as though my car is now unregistered and sitting in the driveway until i save up the required money (which is going to take a while).

I tried to look up some information, and by the looks of it when you go over the 40k threshold here in WA, things get a bit pricey.

On a $50 000 car the stamp duty in Queensland is $1 000, while in Western Australia the stamp duty is $3 250

Seems they have lowered the thresholds and increased the % here in WA while the other states are much cheaper. That's the government for you.

the difference in price is prolly the gst they illegaly add on to the stamp duty tax

but didnt your importer inform you of all associated costs when you went to seethemabout importing a car ?

also only pay 6 months rego that will make it easier on the hip pocket for a while

i know mine did

My car was 49k so wouldn't fall into that category. Also, while we are on the subject, i want to talk about compliancing. I know pod filters are illegal unless correctly bracketed down and shielded (by ARC box will eliminate this problem).

I also know that if there are no speakers in the rear shelf, you must replace them with replacement speakers or get them properly covered. Is this correct?

Lastly, i have an exhaust with Jasma plates attached and its not too loud, should this be alright?

Hmm, in Vic for compliance they remove the speakers and put little child restraint brackets over where the speaker goes.

did the new labour government tax for luxury cars affect the stamp duty for transfers?? anyone check this?

if anyone wants to know, if you buy a car over 50k in australia you must pay a luxury car tax of 33% over the old 25% during the howard years.

The LCT threshold is actually $57,180 excluding any stamps or rego costs..

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
