Two things have been annoying me to hell the past few weeks as my old R-33 GTS seems to have given up on the driver's side electric window and the intermittent windscreen wipers.

Number one, the power windows - when I hit the switch to wind them up, 9 times out of 10 it won't work. I have to quickly flick the switch down and back up to get it to work and sometimes even that doesn't work. If I hold the switch in the up position and elbow the inside of the door firmly that seems to work the best. I have taken the door trim off and checked all the connections to no avail, I notice there is a little black-box that seems to be the controller for the window that I can't open. When I flip the switch you can hear things inside the box clicking and making noise, I think the problem may be there. Any ideas?

Two, the wipers - lately when I set my wipers to INT they simply will not go. This used to happen once in a blue moon but would rectify itself but lately they have stopped working on INT altogether. It used to be that I left the lever on INT and after about 10 - 20 minutes they would start wiping really fast for a few times and then return to normal speed. Now, nothing. I have to have the wipers on flat-out or not at all. Again - any ideas? As it is really annoying in light showers of rain...

The power window problem is definitely that little black relay box.

You can pry it open and re solder the dodgy circuitry. This definitely fixes the problem.

If you dont have soldering gear and cant fix it yourself, i actually have one for sale (that i have opened up, and fixed) :) Shoot me a PM if you want it...

Don't know about the wipers though; have you tried doing a search?

the wipers are controled by the little brownish looking box thats held on with a little bracket on the passengers side of the car in the engine bay, right up against the firewall..when i got my car ( R33 ) mine was disconnected for some reason but i never new what it did and my inter speed never worked.the wipers would only work on the faster speeds and i could stop the wipers where ever i wanted on the windscreen.when i pluged this box back in everything was right as rain again!

Thanks Jack and Tenq. I have seen these boxes before when looking around in the engine bay but never realised what they were for. They are connected but they are very dirty - perhaps I will try spraying a bit of electrical contact cleaner on them. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks to Luciano for the new relay! It worked wonderfully on my driver side window :P

Not so good news for the wipers though, I managed to find one brown box against the firewall on the passenger side, it was plugged in - I sprayed some contact cleaner in it but to no avail. Intermittent wipers still do not work. Any more ideas? This is driving me nuts as it has been raining a lot lately!

Still no solution to this problem mate, have been busy lately. Winter coming up though I may put some more time into trying to work it out. I will keep you posted.

    • So the original radiator is leaking now. Looking at getting a fully aluminium one next. Am I correct in saying that the Series 2 Auto Stageas have a separate trans cooler from factory (located in between the rad and intercooler in my previous post/message).   Currently looking at Fenix $460, Blitz $700, GReddy $800, and KoyoRad $740. What are everyones thought on Fenix ( ive read a few comments saying theyre cheap Chinese rebrands etc and how their build quality is... well.. chinese...)  compared to the others? Worth the extra couple hundies?
    • Man, different parts but the same numbers is terrible @dbm7! And it doesn't help that most online shops don't list the part numbers at all. They just give a list of compatible models...
    • Slow when hot could also be because its getting more dynamic compression, OR things are getting a bit tighter once it is all expanded. If it were an earthing issue, typically I'd expect you to have it have issues all the time. Unless it's really a combination of both things. Where the higher compression, and things being a bit tighter, is giving that bit of extra load and you do need a slight clean up on the cables/connections.
    • Yeah, this is one of the most annoying things about nissan part numbers... I've got an unrelated example... Image is of the AT output shaft ~ they have the same part#, but clearly the shaft on the left is beefier design to that on the right ...the difference (essentially) is the 'lighter' shaft on the right, is for engines up to RB25DE (this includes RB20 variants) : the shaft on the left is for RB25/26DET(T)....are they interchangeable? Yes...but obviously one shaft is going to be stronger than the other...and, the lighter shaft is around USD115, but the heavier shaft closer to USD150...same part#... ...epc-data usually tells a tale ~ the amayama listing for 39100-23U60 has a note "Longest side is between 60 and 105 cm" ; no such info is there for 39100-23U70 ...and given the great disparity in price between the 2 parts, it makes me at least curious (to the point of caution) where the 'extra money' went? ...ie; these 2 parts have a cost difference that (to myself at least) isn't explained by 'plastic boot'...ie; with amayama there's AUD700 price difference ...plastic versus rubber?...I'm not seeing it like that...and 60cm ~ 105cm...??...that's a huge disparity....something hinky going on here... I'd try searching by VIN, not model... /2cents
