Sounds like you are new to skylines as well :)

Maybe go for the GTT, start off small, it obvious from what I have heard GTR's can get expensive

The GTT only has one turbo and one would think less on the pocket-emptying side than a GTR can be, although I have never owned one myself, it is understandable

The rb25's seem to go well, see how you go.

Goodluck.

If its going to be used as a daily driver then I'd suggest a 34 GT-T or even a 33 GTST you can pick up either one for 25k and under and they aren't likely to fall apart either. As long as you allow for adequate servicing costs. New Oil n filter every 5000ks will be about all you'll need to do depending on mods.

GTR's are interesting atm. I've been looking at trading up my GTST to a GTR and there are some extremely clean examples getting around for as little as 20k. The problem with that is you should really have an uh-oh fund just incase something lets go on it. I've never owned one but what most will tell you round here is to allow for 10k to do a full engine rebuild :S just in case. The running cost of a GTR is much higher also. Chews fuel and insurance will cost you an arm and a leg.

Either way you should decide what the car is going to be used for and what you prefer personally. My advice is to go into a dealer and test drive every car they've got. I test drove a 33 GTS, 33 GTST, 32 GTR, Evo VI and 34 GTT all in one day good fun lol, dealer was a bit disapointed when I didnt buy any of them but it made my decision much easier and you can base it on you own experiences. I really wanted a GTR but at the time I couldn't afford to maintain it so I ended up with my 33 GTST which has been an awesome car to drive every day. Now I've gotten my pay rise and I'm working closer to home I'm looking to buy a GTR :(

If your going looking at skylines on the weekend or something make sure you read the buyers threads on the forums that tell you all the common faults and stuff to look out for on a skyline. Really helpful :D

Good Luck with your purchase when you get it post pics

cheers for the advice but is that neo top bit on the 34 nessasary it f*kin kills the whole rb look wtf is it lol

R34 GTT FTMFW..

depends on ur preference.. and the style you prefer.. performance/looks/it's perpose..

as stated costs of a GTR are higher insurance/running costs/fixing but benefit over the GST/GTT

I chose the GTT cause it's newer, Less running costs, and looks shit hot (although so does the R33)

Well before you chose what car you like etc

Think first of the costs to insure, get quotes on all cars and see if you can match up to all of them comfortably. If you can match all go the 32gtr i see alot of awesome examples selling on this sight for just above 21 000, with the remaining money you can put it to maintenance/insurance etc The 33gtr is going to be a bit more so i think for a fine example you might be a little tight but some people let them go unbelievebly cheap.

If you cant go the gtr route stick to the 33gtst, with 25k you can get an awesome one maybe even one worth a rb26 in it already. A real nice 34gtt i think would be a little tight for 25k also.

Personally this would be my preference 32/33gtr > 33gtst >34gtt

With current exchange rates R33GTRs are cheap as, could get one on the road for 20K and have 5K spare....

In saying that I think the R34GT-T is a much better looking car. The AWD system on the GTRs is awesome though, and is seriously worth a test drive.

thanks for that the site is awsome

All comes down to what maintenance you can afford, It's the one and only reason I went single turbo over the GTR (fuel use is about the same ;s)

GTR's use top notch oil, the parts are the dearest as well as insurance and you better have a kidney spare to sell if something big like the turbos or engine decides to wreck itself.

On the other hand you have the street cred of owning a GTR the rarity factor and great performance/handling standard.

    • Congrats on the career change!  I did something similar at the start of the year too, left IT / corporate after nearly 2 decades. Soooo when's the motor coming out for the spark plug change?
    • Hi guys, long time no post as per usual! It's been a busy year so far, the biggest thing being a new job.  After 28 years in the automotive industry I decided it was time for a change.  I was losing faith in the industry and where it's heading.  Now in a completely different industry (electrical) working for a company that manufacture water pump contollers.  Not as sexy as cars but it's an interesting,  challenging industry. I now don't work Saturdays which is a bonus!  It's still 50-55 hours a week but having Saturdays ack after 28 years of working them is awesome!   No news on the GT-R but i did decide to add some more JDM goodness into my life....           1990 300 ZX.  She's not perfect but for a 35 year old car she ain't bad!  Just going to tidy it up a bit and enjoy it.  It's currently auto but will start stockpiling everything for a manual swap. It WILL distract me even further from the GT-R but im hoping not for too long! It somewhat proves a 6'8" freak can fit in a 300 ZX.  Sort of...  I drove it home from the previous owners house in Melbourne via Black Spur and Merton Gap (2 awesome bits of Victorian twisty road) and it was amazing!  Handles so well!!!   I don't think it would be worthy of a full build page but I'll post up some of the upgrades here if anyone is interested?  Cheers guys!
    • End game is to: - Remove all the slop from old worn parts - Adjust setup so that the wheels actually fit and the car is drivable (currently it is not because of the extreme rubbing on the guards).   Progress over the last couple of days, removed the rear hubs! Next steps: - Buy bushings - Replace bushings/bearings on hub - Reinstall
