The diffence between the two are GTR measure 296 x 32 and GTS measure 280 x 30

I upgraded to GTR front brakes on my GTS and it is a worth while upgrade out on the

race track I had no brake fade at all and they felt very strong and consistent.I still used

the GTS rims (16 x 6.5) GTR are (16 x 8) and the only drama that I had was the the rim

was very close the the Nissan logo on the caliper about 2mm gap so what I did was file

the logo off and repainted them in high temp paint. With after market wheels this won't

be a problem apart from that it is 100% bolt on fit.The rear brakes on the GTS are the

same as early model GTR's same part number on the rotors and pads.

I think your money would be better spent on good pads, and when the 280mm rotor screams enoough then consider changing to another Skyline brake setup then, but i think you will find that on the street you wont notice any difference at all. A

At the track, if you go then i think again you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the setups if you are running the same pads. But no doubt it is a good upgrade but maybe not so budget by the time you buy the GTR calipers, buy new rotors, and throw your pads in there it is probably a $1000 upgrade,

Not meaning to sidetrack this at all but a semi-relevant question..

Roy, What do you think are the biggest brakes to fit on the front of a gtst/gts4 under a 17x8 rim (unsure of offset but all inside guard)?

Currently I am running r32 gtr sumitomos with 296 rotors. I am thinking of going to dogbones and 324 rotors with these callipers.. do you have an opinion on this?

James.

Yeh, the 324mm will fit under majority of 17" wheels, I know i have never had a set of wheels that have clashed with my 324mm setup, and i have probably had 8-10 set of wheels on the car.

Biggest problem i have had is going to an aftermaket caliper with 330-343mm rotors which is when it becomes dependant on wheel types and quality, along with offsets etc.

33gtst setup is pretty much the same as 32gtr but a tad heavier, I'm running them but I put braided lines and a master cyl stopper in at the same time so can't really comment on just the calliper/rotor upgrade.

I don't know what people charge for 32gtr brakes but 33gtst would do the job without the gtr tax..

Alcon make 343mm, CSC/B-spec make 343mm. Performance friction also make 343mm. Project U make 345mm. RDD made 343mm, Biot make 340mm. Brembo/Stoptech/Dixcel all make 332mm. Alcon, AP and Wilwood all make 330mm. Just Jap and the G4/K-sport along with Greddy do a 330mm rotor as well. Then you have a bucket load of people making 324mm replacement rotors for GTRs and Supras

  • 10 months later...

After getting halfway through this project, and then finding that I needed to remove both front driveshafts as 3x cv boots were stuffed and had to be repaired in between, It seems that I have a rare set of 17" rims that the 324mm discs and caliper adapters will not fit under..

Seems that the inner diameter of these gmax m100 rims are just too close.

Just a heads up for anyone else heading this route. Now I have to work out which way to go.

ffs.

    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
    • Welcome mate. Any pics? Even with a DE I'd be well happy if I had that as a 1st car.
