For a fraction over half the Nissan’s cost back in ’99, this Passat offers an extra pair of doors, a transmission of awe-inspiring effectiveness, twenty more horsepower and identical performance. Against the clock, it’ll exactly match the Skyline, notching 5.6 seconds to 60mph and a 155mph electronically limited top speed.

If you're measuring a stock GT-R's performance purely on its straight line abilities, you're not getting the point of the vehicle.

Nice car, audi S4 on a budget

they have a luuuverly interior

Had a look at its little brother the V6 4motion, before we bought the MPS 6,

if the R36 was available then it may have changed things.....

time for a test drive me-thinks.

Yeah my daily driver is an Audi A3 with DSG and it's brilliant.

Still like a manual for weekends though.

When I read the article I thought it odd to compare this R36 to a Skyline as they are completly different beasts.

But as a daily driver this Passat wagon is definitely on my list at lease renewal time.

Are wagons the new black? Some of them look so sweet.

Seems so with these Audis,Passats and even VE Commodores

ahaha, how strange

my brother works for volkswagen and brought this car home tonight! believe me a really nice car, the blue paint and interior (especially the front seats! drools :S) are top notch. It is really tidy. has all the goodies heated and adjustable bucket seats, touch screen display, sat nav the list goes on.

as for the dsg, if you had ear muffs on you wouldnt be able to tell when the car changed gears, its that smooth.

Funny enough, just before we left an xr6 for dead by multiple car lengths, and he had a rolling head start.

really nice car overall

(p.s: i wouldnt trade my gtr though)

GTR34 - 0-60mph or 0-97kmh in 5.6 seconds??????

Somebody can't use a stopwatch!?!

In 400m this wagon, nice as it is, would be about 6 to 8 car lengths back....

Wagons might be the new black, but lets get our numbers right.... and these are amazing for a VW,

even for a wagon, but not for any GTR with 4 tyres!

(Even my boxy sled does 5.70 on my Apexi RSM!)

Apparently they come in white...

I've got a DSG in the Jetta too. Dead set, people who say 'oh so its an auto' are just shocked when you take them for a drive.

Either way, its a only 3.6L NA 6... They are insane cars.

+1

also they're comparing their all new brilliant passat to TEN year old technology from the skyline! so buying this car will get u up and running as quick as some car out 10 years ago... imagine them trying to compare a new vw to the r35 gtr!

LoL, but this is an NA 6cyl family sedan... For $10k more than a car thats 10years older than it.

I must admit its one thing I've never been able to work out with all you GTR fan boys, if someone makes a compairson, you are all straight in to how the car the GTR is being compaired with is newer, but the new GTR is so much better again, when there isnt even a direct compairson to start with. Its like a 18yo going to a 10yo 'my dick is bigger, but I'll show you my balls are as well'. Well yeah...

Rant over.

    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
