Yeah I really miss the sprints. Great fun :P

I was only doing mid 46s, but my car was near stock and running on 185 street tyres. Now I've got a Stagea 260RS. I'd love to bring it up to see how it compares. Much bigger and heavier car, but seems to handle better than the old GTI-R. I think I saw your car doing Motorkhana, too. My brother-in-law, Jaimen, owns an old black (now half black, half orange) Toyota T18 (previously owned by my brother).

Would be good to see the stag around the track..

Wouldn't of been my car at the khana, I only do sprints...

Run low 44's on street tires with a bit more in it, last round took 2nd place in 4wd class... Next time im hoping to cut the time down to the 41 second zone and hopefully win an outright round.. Although there is a lot of work ahead of me to get there.

That's pretty impressive on street tyres. It would be awesome to see you win a round. We need a GTR at the top. It's a shame Nathan sold his beast and went to the dark side.

that is the plan mate..

The car will be definately sorted for the first round of 09, with better brakes, tires and power to boot .. not to mention 50kg lighter should see it pretty competetive..

Seems like Nathan is having trouble sorting the EVO out on rounds, during practise he got down to the high 40's but couldn't back it up when the round started..

Update on car, coming later tonight

This whole engine removal process is taking a lot longer then planned.

Today I un-bolted the shaft which runs from the transfer towards the diff, also removed the cross member which braces the transmision. Loosened off the lower bell-housing bolts.

So this leaves me with the two upper bolts on the bell housing.. Acess to these under the car is un-believably stupid! So im thinking of going from the top in between the back of the motor and fire wall.. Anyone have any in-put on this matter?

Front right drive shaft is still not out :( A poof-teenth more play and it will be out, im sure there is an easy solution to this..

Pics etc tomorrow damn tired

Not a very busy day today, feeling lazy..

-Finally removed the right drive shaft after un-bolting nearly every single control/ linkage/ support arm in the suspension :D

-Lowered the box in order to get to the top 2 bell housing bolts, still have NFI how it is done! You can't see jack under there! Clues?

2 more bolts and the engine shall come out :(

Change of plans with the forced induction.. Now chasing a 3540 set-up :)

More later

Jeez, good work man. Talk about change of plans! This thing will be awesome :(

Keep us posted how you go.

Hi Simon..

Been a bit slack on updates as of late..

Will do a proper update late this evening with pics..

Thanks for the interest

Tomek

Hey mate,

Give us an update, single turbo now? What power you chasing, what single, etc etc..?

(This is all interesting stuff for people like me who are still undecided on what to do with their GTR)

Good luck!

Apologies for the lack of update's guys.

Other things have been taking up time, been preparing the 32 4 door for the track tomorrow.

Now onto the important stuff.. :P

01102008310bs7.jpg

Motor has been at the mechanics for 2 weeks now, waiting for the HKS pistons to come in. They have arrived now.

02102008317xh1.jpg

The head, block and pistons will be sent down to ADVAN performance in Sydney.

The total build is not 100% finalised, but im looking at..

Head cleaned up with the exhaust side ported.

General tidy up of the block, 20 thou over to match the pistons.

My car is a 93 model, so im under the impression it has the 33 crank (better have :( ) which will be tidied up and dropped back in. Bearings are yet to be decided upon, my mech isn't a fan of ACL for some reason? Rods will be prepped and contact surfaces smoothed out and checked for a flush join, new rod bolts lol mech isn't an ARP fan either. New head studs, HKS gasket kit.

New harmonic balancer (yet to decide) will keep the N1 oil pump honest. N1 water pump. Tomei restrictors, sump baffles with Trust sump extension.

Going single turbo...

-GT3540 with the .82 housing running on a 6 boost manifold.

Goal power level under perfect conditions will be 400kw, but this being Townsville I know il never see them conditions :(

But for now im just waiting for the bare motor to be DONE, before I make up my mind on everything that's going in..

I've probably missed a fair bit and if anyone has questions, do ask.

  • 4 months later...

Block & head has come back from Advan, finally

Bare basics+

-Standard 05U block bored out 20thou over

-33 crank polished, linished & balanced

-Eagle rods

-HKS dove tail (think is the name) pistons

I've got an N1 oil pump here, not sure if I want to use it just yet  ... thinking about going nitto or shelling out more for a Tomei... or shelling out even more for the group buy Red R/ Godzilla external pump. <.. Comments or advice

No pics of the head, under wraps not allowed to un-wrap it :D

264 in, 272 ex

Turbo set-up is still a 3540 but going for the 1.06 rear, mech is confident it will still be responsive.. time will tell

Car should (you know how these things are) be going in next week sometime and be up and running for the run in late Feb :)

Nice work mate. It's coming along nicely. I wish I was up in Townsville to see it at the track. It will be a weapon. I'll be up the weekend of the 28th of March. I wonder if there are sprints on then....

won't be going N1 too much to risk after coming so far, anyone give me any advice or point me in the right direction don't want to pay the $1900+ for a Jap pump, surely someone in Aus stocks them for a decent price.

Cheers man.

After 4 months of confinement, she's standing on her own

n508809702_2176032_7047.jpg

Waiting on sump, getting a HI octane item made up with the enlarging, trap doors & extended pick up.

Yet to purchase my balancer..

Should be going into the shop in under 2 weeks.

In that time, Im hoping to strip out as much weight as possible. Starting with air con, managed to remove most of the line's and canister, but having trouble with the fan as im lazy and do not want to remove front support bar  anyone done this exercise before? Care to share what they removed? Any pics?

Cheers

great work, must be itching to get behind the wheel..

p.s wot rims are those, ssr, sp1?

Yeah .. trying to not think about it :D

there Sp1's and there for sale.. hehe

Spent an hour today after top gear, removing a bit more air con related material. Pretty much everything in-between where the cooler and radiator sit.

Slowly starting to look neater.

Car that is not the garage .. :(

Can anyone tell me what this plastic tube is? Is it needed?

rrrrm.jpg

Now I have to trace back all the lines running around the intake side and remove them. Have planned to pull the dash apart and remove everything air-con related including heater box. An demister is needed to pass RWC (not that I need one atm) so I will hook up an hair dryer to an battery source and run a switch into the cabin :D

Tomek

I cant remember how i did it. but i removed the aircon fans and core pertty easily cant remember it causing any trouble... just start undoing anything attached to it.. maybe i took the fans off first.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
