Hi,

Just wondering what people have done with their R32 gtst rear quarter windows when having their car re-sprayed. I just priced some from Nissan, and because the window and rubber come as a single unit, theyre about $1000 + GST for both sides.

Has anyone removed the windows without damaging the rubbers and replaced them after having their car sprayed?

yes

yeah I made them remove and replace mine, but my advice is if your seals are fine then just leave them in and get them to back mask it properly. mine went in an out 'ok' but I think it's far better to just leave them in if they aren't old and crusty.

Your rubbers cant be in any worse condition than mine were and we didnt damage mine at all when they were removed and replaced.

I got some local glass company to do it for me...i dont trust myself with glass :)

mate i got a r32 GT-R and re sprayed it recently i tell u what man all comes down to who is doing your car 110% if someone with years of experience is doing it and is good at what he does then you can leave the quarters on like i did and they will easily be able to put tape on the seals perfect and spray it and it will come out mint and on the line like mine did no need to spend the extra money to get someone in to take them out then put them in waste of money waste of time.

I've just finished painting an R32 and we left the rear quarters in at the owners request. It looks good, and since we kept the same colour anyway it's difficult to see it's only been taped.

However, I'm now doing mine and for the sake of a $40 removal fee I figured I may as well get them professionally removed, especially since I'm changing the colour. The rubbers remained in good condition after removal. Not sure how much it is to reinstall them.

If you do get them removed and they haven't done an R32 before, watch out for a clip at each side located at the back of the window down the bottom corner, it can be easy to break.

Hey SAm,

I would like to know where you got them removed for 40 bucks and is it in melbourne?

I will be painting my 32 some time in the future and really would want them out as the last time it got done it was masked.

    • Bit difficult to follow. Have a look below and see what the standard R32 layout was like. Note there was a restrictor in place immediately before "turbocharged pressure control solenoid" that, if removed, magically got you 1 bar boost.
    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
