I've read as many threads as I could find in the last hour on pads, and am leaning towards Ferodo DS2500 or EBC Green or Red Stuff.

My current pads (Formula TS2000's) are squealers, and i've never been able to silence them. Thats the only reason for the pad change. Want a high performance pad, for street use and a fair bit of hills driving, with the ability to do a track day.

DS2500

- Seem to be the most commonly used pad, but quite expensive

- When doing a search, didnt find a lot of noise issues with them, seem to be a quiet pad

Green Stuff

- Seem ok, but not recommended for track use

Red Stuff

- Worried that these will be noiser than Green Stuff, i dont want another noisy pad.

- Most of the Red Stuff threads i found, were relating to noise

- Less dust than Green Stuff

I'm looking for some feedback on these 3 pads, to help decide which way to go, at the moment they all have Pro's + Con's and i'm undecided. Thanks Guys.

all I can say is...take their recommendation and dont use EBC green stuff on the track. I wrecked a set in half a day's track work. ebndix ultimates are a much better street/light track compromise.

having said that....some pad compounds may be more likely to squeal than others, but more often it relates to installation and preparation.

use machined discs.

bed the new pads properly

run anti squeal shims

add copper grease to the rear of the pads

clean and rebuild the caliper pistons and seals

I run pretty agressive race pads (see avatar) but they don't squeal even when cold, on the street. hawk ht-60 but most other race pads I used are the same (g4 race pads, DS3000, hawk black, sbs race pads etc).

Hi Trav,

Ive used a few sets of TS2000s and they have never squealed.. on the other hand a friend recently swapped a set of DS2500s from one car to another. On the original car they didn't squeal, and on the latter car they squeal horribly.

I reckon its a bit of bad luck if you are stuck with a squealy set of pads, not sure spending the $$ on a different set of pads will fix the problem.. maybe worth a go if you have tried other options but I wouldn't bank on it solving the problem since im pretty sure the TS2000s are not an inherently squealy pad.

I found someone else who had problems with TS2000's squeeling. They took them back to Repco, got them swapped for another set and still had the problem. I thought because of all the effort i'd gone to stop the squeeling with no success + because my last pads didnt squeel + because TS2000's arnt popular and i couldnt find many threads on here about them, they were just a noisy pad. Interesting to read you didnt have problems with them.

The supplier has recommended i try one more time, to take them out, use a linishing belt to roughen up, etc - I just want to stop stuffing around and have quieten the noise a bit.

I've just finished a set of EBC Red Stuffs, I didn't have any problems with noise at all, and their performance even when cold was pretty good.

My only issue is that they wore out reasonably quickly at the track, but that is not their fault, I should have chosen Yellow Stuff instead as my car is used pretty much for track days only and a real occasional run through the hills.

I had Green stuffs before that but they are really only a street pad as has been mentioned above.

I used them on the street and track, with standard and slotted rotors.. never any squeal. I reckon with most peoples squealing problems its a combination of factors related to the particular car along with that particular set of pads, making it hard to blame either the car or the pads hence being bad luck!

If you have tried other options then I guess your best bet might be to try another pad! Good luck, I dont envy your position.

If I had to buy one of those 3 pads, assuming the reds and the 2500s are similarly priced, I would most definitely go for the 2500s.. excellent street and occasional track use pad.

The reds are roughly equivalent to the 2500s, and either sound like what you are after. I found that the 2500/3000s were getting expensive, so if the price difference is big, try the reds.

Squealing is usually an installation problem...there are a number of threads here on how to stop it. I wouldnt be replacing pads in an attempt to address that problem, because you'll probably be wasting your money.

    • Yeah, playing with naturally aspirated is not smart bang for your buck power wise, but then I've never been known for being smart when it comes to cars and modifications
    • I mean from V8 world there are gains to be made in intakes and such over stock items, but definitely only if you tune them. We're talking about I dunno, 10kw here and there on a 300KW v8, gains made by tuning in the 0.2 AFR that it changes so YES but also no you won't notice it other than the sound. Duct the air as mentioned 750,000 times and you will notice happier IAT's which definitely make a difference N/A. I mean my unsubstantiated guess is you'd go from 140kw with everything stock (after cams) to 145kw with everything and a tune :p
    • I decided to "spend baby spend", and "risk it for the biscuit" 2 Orders were made buying parts that I "don't really need but really really want" totalling $2.5k AUD 1: In stock items (intake plenum and throttle body) 2: The airbox thingie, with no real ETA for them getting more stock, so patience will be required
    • Any further updates on experiences with them? Anyone installed one with a getrag here as yet?
