Legality of aftermarket wings on skylines

Recommended Posts

adzmax, i dont think the height of the gt-wing is an issue,maybe how wide, is. Best is check out with the guys at the pits,and maybe even get a permit for it(which is the best way)

cops wont care wether it is carbon fibre,aluminium or even fibreglass, so best to get a permit

Adzmax,

Don't quote me 100% but last I heard all cars manufactured after a certain date (i think 1989) have to have a brake light above the bootlid (ie included in the wing or in the rear glass)

I'm not sure how this rule is applied to imports though.....

As far as I know the rule is an ADR so yes it would apply to all states......the upper edge of the boot is fine......I think the rule says the car has to have a 'high level' brake light so I guess any posi above the std brake lights....

I'm with Muz on that one, all 34's are complied / rego'd without any modification or addition of a brake light any higher than stock offering.

Adz: I have test driven a 34 GTT that had a GT wing on the back which was already complied but I am not 100% certain whether that means it is deemed ok though.

Ah ok, as most of you know the lights in the top of the bootlid, not the wing so i really dont know. Who could I check it with? I remember one of my old friends had a silvia and took the wing off but had to replace it because of the light so maybe 34's are ok?

Vehicle Standards Information from VicRoads:

16. PROTRUSIONS

A modification to a vehicle must not result in:

o Any object or fitting, protruding from any part of the vehicle in a manner likely to create the risk of bodily injury to any person;

o Any component, feature object or fitting on the vehicle whose design, construction and/or condition and the manner in which it is affixed, is likely to create the risk of bodily injury to any person;

o Any bumper bar which does not have its ends turned towards the body of the vehicle to a sufficient extent to avoid any risk of hooking or grazing any person;

o Vertical supports forward of the windscreen for use in conjunction with overhead carriers where such attachment will adversely affect the vehicle driver's forward field of view. See VSI 29 for more information.

I far as I know... if it come into the country and is complied with modifications... then it is fine for the road, any modification made within Australia need permits / engineer certificate!

I don't know about wings though :D

As R31 Skyline Chick has posted... aslong as you're not going to slit some unsuspencting pedestrians throat, it should be fine :)

    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
