Hey guys,

For those with R33 gtst's, and harnessess - where have you bolted the shoulder straps to in the rear of the car?

I have used the bolt holes on the backseat from the back right hand seat, (where the existing seat belts would go if the backseat was there) however the angle of the harness is around 45 degrees...looking at the cams manual, it says the acceptable range is no more than 40 degrees...

So what have others done?

Is it enforced strongly also?

Chris its rarely enforced strictly in a road car.

However one option is a purpose made bar that goes from tower to tower across the rear parcel shelf. I have made a fair few of them for R33's and they work fine.

Chris someone (and I can't for the life of me remember who) make a parcel shelf strut brace. If you can find out who makes them great or go with Brads idea. The rear seat belt points suck,,,in a roll-over your shoulders are subject to way to much force.

Just keep in mind cams rules are minimum requirements,,,always try to do better.

Cusco do parcel shelf bars for the R33 from memory.

There okay and you can wrap a harness around them, but not really strong enough in my opinion.

Ill try and dig up some photos of the last one I made but basicly it was 38mmOD 2.5 wall thickness CDS (same as minimum spec cage material) It had decent sized mounts and the harness mounts were the usual eyelets with welded in thread bosses.

Also did one for an RX7 not to long ago (actually you'd know the owner Chris, Craig Baker)

Nah Brad It wasn't the Cusco one,,,I bought one off Johnny at UAS some years ago that was good quality steel that would do the job.

I actually gave it back to him thinking it was wrong. Strupid me.

Really the only way to secure the shoulder belts properly would have to be a half or full cage.

But after saying that the series 2 GTS-T's have mounting points for a strut brace in the boot which I use. Cutting the rear fire wall to run belts through there would be another way.

The Skylines parcel shelf is no way strong enough in my opinion,,,but the strut towers would be.

My harness is mounted in the back seat belt bolt holes also and i have roughly worked mine out to be 33 deg below horizontal or 57 if you are measuring from the vertical postion? When i fitted mine i never checked cams i followed the instalation guide that cam with mine ( it is a Takata harness ). I can post up pictures if you cant remember what it looks like or you are more than welcome to drop in on your way home on Sat and have a look.

I have attached the page out of the manual for you. Would mine pass?

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.

Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
