Cleaning Engine Bay

Just wondering who has done their own engine bay cleaning with degreaser and what should be covered?

Shouldnt really have to cover anything unless you got a pod then you would cover that with a plastic bag

just make sure you don't get water on the coil packs.... they don't like water at all

but the skylines have a cover over the coils so you should be right ... as for the pod just don't directly hit it with water and you should be fine ...

Make sure you cover any electricals, and especially completely cover any anodised or braided fittings as they will be affected by the degreaser. You can use window cleaner or brake cleaner on those though.

Never put straight degreaser on your cam covers, it stains them and they look crap until you have them polished or painted, if you have to degrease, water it down.

Also - Wait for the engine to cool before you spray it with cold water or you risk cracking the exhaust manifold or worse - the head.

Cover your pod filter (if you have one) with a plastic bag, everything else should be fine as long as you dilute the degreaser.

I'd also start the car and let it idle or take it for a short drive after you've done it. This is to burn off and/or evaporate any water still lying around. Make sure the car reaches NOT.

just make sure that you cover all electricals, our cars are getting old and i wouldnt trust a lot of the old seals,

when i cleaneded mine i used a tin of elbow grease abd plain cloths and some general purpose cleaner in warm water

came up a treat
