Okay, so I've found myself in a bit of a situation. My wedding is coming up soon which means I'll be able to put money aside for other (car related) things again soon. I've got an (almost) stock R33 GTST at the moment and was going to drop a few grand on it after the wedding... then I saw how cheap the R33 GTRs are getting nowadays; they're down to what the 32s were a couple of years ago.

So here's my dialema:

Upgrade the GTST / Just cave and get a GTR

Here's my thinking at the moment:

- It would be cheaper and quicker to drop $5,000 - $10,000 on my GTST for a bit of added fun and some very reasonable rwkw

- The GTR has more tuning potential (?)

- Four wheel drive is a massive bonus

- It would be sweet to have a GTR

- The R33 is my favourite shape and I like the interior: the GTR will be almost the same inside

- My current car is an auto (which has its pros and cons, not the least of which is that the missus doesn't have a manual license)

- Petrol on the GTR will be more pricey (is it really if you just drive normally?)

- I might have trouble selling my current car in this economic climate (because it's a guzzler?)

- I'd need to get a loan to buy a GTR - not so to mod my current car.

Can anyone add anything to this or has anyone here upgraded from a GTST to a GTR?

Thanks guys!

Hey Justa. I was thinking around the 300 mark which seems a fairly reasonable expectation for my car and a goal for a lot of people; although I can't remember reading of any auto's pulling that much - do you think the tranny would hold up?

I would mod the GTR eventually of course, but not right away; I'd need to pay off a bit of the loan first. What a stock GTR has over a GTST of equivelant horse-power is handling and that second turbo providing some extra help at the bottom end.

dont know if an auto can handle that much power.

I would probably go test drive a gtr and see if you like it that much more than a gtst

Thanks Terence, yeah I was thinking that myself, I'm a little hesitant to throw too much HP at the auto tranny because I don't know what it's actually capable of... I mean, I could go for a manual conversion but... sigh.. why bother?

I'd actually like to take a GTR for a spin and see what I think. Does anyone know how I'd go about doing this without wasting anyone's time? I don't want to go into a dealership and test a car when I'm not actually interested in buying at that point.

I'm sure someone would be willing to take you for a drive in there R33 GTR, but doubt they'll hand over the keys :D

Ha, yeah I wouldn't be surprised if I couldn't drive it ;). Maybe I'll ask around here after the wedding and see if anyone would be willing to take me out.

Do up the gtst i rekon.. buy injectors / fuel pump / SAFC / boost controller / catback exhaust / fmic / bov / thats all ya need mate.. seing as tho ur lady cant drive a manual it sounds like the best way.. unless u wana be selfish and say nup ur walking lol :D in comes the GTR haha .. OH yer and tune it all up ull get alot more HP then stock

Hmmm, selling the gtst was always on my mind if I was to get a GTR but I'd need to get a loan to hold me over until I can find a buyer. I notice that daineisdabomb is selling his gtst and it looks like an awesome piece of work! If it's still for sale after the wedding I'll certainly consider making him and offer. But you're right, a worked gtst is also an option.

since your is pretty much dead stock and you dont seem to be attached to it i would sell it and buy a gtr. I am sort of in the same situation but i have come to far with the gtst to stop now i just need the bigger turbo.

    • Thanks, will do that.  Thankfully they still feel great.
    • Yeah man, absolutely. You can try pushing me all the way in swapping the R34 for an E9x M3
    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
    • no one recommending speedtek gearsets?   i'm in the same boat as Cosline but rwd, I am holding boost back in third to 600nm at the hubs to save the gear as i make nearly 750nm at the hubs on a mainline
