Justjap Clear Rb26 Covers

hey guys, my car is going back to sam next week for the last bits and pieces to be done on the engine, of which includes an exhaust cam gear. while doing it I was thinking he could maybe replace my stock cam gear cover with one of those clear cam gear covers off just jap, but I got a few ques...

1. will it fit an rb25? - if not can you get some? where?

2. is the quality decent?

3. are they legal? or can they melt and your engine goes boom, catches on fire, kills you while you drive into an orphange?

soz... but cops defected my old oil based pod once because they said it could "catch on fire" :thumbsup:

any experiences with them would be great too!

My understanding is you need a RB26 backing plate for em. Standard is plastic but just black so no change there only rice factor baby so go for it :blink:

Oil based pods change emissions in some small way & thats why that cop incident happened, get a 3A dry type and you will be sweet. see DR DRIFT

Plus the oil coates things like AF meter and thats not good as well as forming deposits in intake pipes and coating turbine blades. :)

done everything you said a long time ago :) apart from getting a clear plastic cover... which imo doesnt look ricey...

then again, to each his own...

The RB26 clear cam gear cover WILL NOT fit the RB25 because the RB25 has the variable timing buldge in the front of the inlet cam. However, there are clear covers available for the RB25, you'll find it if you look hard enough - hint, look at some overseas site, perhaps Ebay in the USA or Yahoo in Japan.

I dont think there would be any problems with installing the clear timing cover in terms of the law. Also, in regards to your pod cover, all you needed to keep it legal is to install some form of a shield or a 'box' with a duct feeding fresh air into it.

G'day Adam,

PSI Parts sell clear cam cover for RB25 - http://www.psiparts.com.au/front.asp?pid=28 - was thinking of doing it myself.

Not sure about the quality, you could ask them to test fit for you?

The Clear RB26 covers that Just Jap sells are a Genuine Trust Product.

They also sell Clear Covers for RB25 made by PSI, however they are hardly comparable to the Trust RB26 type, and are only made from very thin plastic.

Your right, they aren't comparable as one is made using plastic injection moulding, the other vacuum moulding. As for the thickness, well I don't want to get into the design specifics as that in itself took several months. Suffice to say we have sold about 150 of these both here and overseas. :P

      Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.

      I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box

      So...not sure if you know if that has always been there or why you went looking. It could be old damage from a clutch explosion, or even just the gearbox got dropped somewhere along the line. Basically, you should seal it up to stop oil and dust getting into the bellhousing, but it doesn't matter too much and is not structural. I'd suggest something like a glob of JB Weld. BTW what gearbox oil are you running, I would guess the breather has been spewing it everywhere.

      Hey Duncan thanks for your reply. Sorry mate I know the photos are shit.  Took another photo for reference. Seems the casing does have a hole in it looking on the net, fluid seeping out. Added a photo

      Very hard to make out what you mean, is it the squarish hole with redline shockproof (probably) under it? Is that pic from on top of the engine with the firewall to the left of pic and engine to the right? Either way, spray the area liberally with degreaser and try again, maybe circle the part you are worried about
