clearly some people have knowledge of sorts when it comes to doing what they do,the best advise i can give is if you cant do it yourself talk to people you trust,and get them to do it. Better to be cautious than pay for a new paint job. The gear i use i trust,it can be used for all applications as they are chemical not abrassive,so on plastic glass paint etc,they never leave a mark,if the area has already been treated within the last 6mths to a year,it wipes off simply leaving a shine after. everyone has there favourites just stick to what you think works best,my cars have always looked and stayed like new for over a year without needing a 4 hour polish again

Mate ,Not trying to stir the pot, just try to help out fellow SAU before they make the same mistakes "we all do as kids with cheap car products or a buffer". I'll just let my shiny daily driven car do the talking in the future.

my advice , any 20 buck wax is better then no wax at all..lol

and like damo said ,if your in doubt ask a pro with a proven track record with before and after photos. and insurance to cover your ride if they stuff it up.!! it does happen !!!!

yeah roo since you only live 5mins away,give me couple weeks got stuff on,then just drop it off,we can sort something out.

yep,you can try to doggy up with colour mix compounds,or even touch up paint pens,but you wont get it smooth without seeing spots where you have fixed it,but then im not a painter so i can only speak from what i know,id say for the sake of 500-1000 dollars to paint it new,itl last another 10 years or more and be worth it,if helps

not doubting you do a good job,although to say that a buff doesnt leave a spin mark is a bit of a stretch,ive been detailing professionally for over 10 years and ive tried every buff/polisher on most markets,and i used to think that they removed swirls too. Any machine that spins one way leaves light marks no matter what products you use.

an orbital doesn't spin, it oscelates, thus not spinning and thus not leaving swirls.

the only thing it can leave behind is marks left if the pad has something in it, which are a prick to get out.

but its already been mentioned, everyone does the job differently. The methods I use leave a perfect non scratched or swirled paint surface, so its the only way I do it.. There's only really preferences as to what products and tools to use, not really a right or wrong way as long as the end product is the same.

And I've been in the new car game for 4 years, I must be doing something right if Ive still got a job :)

Haha thanks, they bother me a fair bit because they are the only marks on the car and pretty noticable..... :)

yeah chips can be annoying if the rest of the paint work is pretty good but if you have to travel alot on country roads, there would be nothing worse than spending a bucket full of cash on new paint then chipping it all over again.

Car bras can be pretty ugly but if you travel alot on those roads they could be a good idea...........then again, don't know if they're even available for a 34

I was just discussing car bras the other day with dan, would be a great idea for anyone who does shows or goes long distance/country but the main thing is to find one with airflow cut outs (cooler + radiator)... dunno if they exist or if u can get em custom made... anyone?

I may be wrong but if you look in to how the orbital buffer works,im sure that inside it has a motor that repeats itself in the same direction,most cant use without leaving marks,but as you said everyone takes to it in their own way,good to hear you have your technique sorted,is a skill lots of people cant master.

Your exactly right though no matter what product you use,use it enough in the right way and your car can continue to look great for ever :(

Oh and I left detailing to be the boss of others,i sit at my desk searching ebay all day long,moneys bout same without having to raise a sweat these days,except for doing my own cars etc

I dont live on a dirt road in the country anymore so it could be worth doing, Car Bras are hell expensive I think...plus id look like a wanker. Maybe if it was a show car id think differently.

traditional black car bra's stuff your paint, get moldy under the lining, and abrasives rub on the seams. my old rx 7 came with one. had to repaint the car to fix the marks it left , in some spots it rubbed down to the metal under the paint.

you can get a 3M clear bra or similar , ask a window tinting place? they do them, its like clear window tint and doesnt show much until its chipped a lot. and in most cases the paint is perfect under it when you take it off to sell the car or redo it ? just make sure they have a warranty to protect the bra from yellowing over time.

stuff is like thick clear tint and molded to fit any car without bubbles or scratches. like shrink wrap for the car

its a option but nothing can protect you on back roads when cars pass you . only help a bit.

in my case im not paying to repair my bonnet chips and dents, im ditching it for a carbon fiber one. lots cheaper,lighter, and vented to aid cooling

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
