The police have the right to do anything they want, that includes strip searching you and your car. All they need is 'suspicion' which is very easy to make up.

Also use paragraphs and sentences in the future, it is very hard to read.

I believe I had a run in with the famous Officer Neil last night. Was down south though...

Seemed liked a decent guy all in all? Bit rough just driving to the shop, parking, and having a cop want to check over you car though.

Anyway, boost controller and missing wheel nut were flagged, and he just told me to get rid of the boost controller and fix the nut, and that if he saw me again without it fixed then he'd fine me and defect me.

From what I hear I'm lucky to get off with a warning. So I'm pretty happy about that.

Still think it's crap that there were shitboxes all around us which he could have found 100 things wrong with, and he singles out my car (which I can guarantee is safer to drive most of those cars!). Perks of having a Line I guess.

If it was Neil, he would have defected you and possibly even set fire to your car.

Ha yeah, this is the reputation I've heard, that's why I thought myself lucky. And hence why I won't be taking any risks, and getting those things seen to.

Not 100% sure that it was him, but he had the Scottish accent, and knew what he was talking about with the car.

Also said "he was down this way" for a few weeks, which I took to mean he's not from the area...

Officer Neil invited himself to one of my Stagea cruises many moons ago. We had 25 Stageas at the meeting point and Officer Neil and his associate asked us to pop open our bonnets. He told me there and then, he wasn't there to defect us for minor mods. He knows we all modifiy our cars and said he'd really only attack the blatantly obvious unsafe mods/condition of the car.

You know how many cars he defected? None. Zero. Zilch. And that included Ben's 350+awkw 260RS.

Tho I have heard some stories about Officer Niel, its second hand information/heresay and alot of whinging on the forums. I've met the guy myself, had him go over my car ... twice ... and I still believe he is a fair bloke. Even if he does talk funny :P

Its simple. Don't be a dick, and you'll stand a better chance.

To be honest, Neil is just another cop doing a job (right or wrong). Its only because he's done the rounds enough and enough people know his name, that we have a name to whinge about when a defect is issued.

Yeah theres a trend with the people that whinge about the police - generally they're youngsters who get pulled over for doing stupid shit and decide not to elaborate that part of the story when they have a whinge in the forums

"I wasn't doing anything wrong!" "Are you sure?" "Yeah!" "Are you really sure?" "well... I did do a fully hektic skid just before I saw him..." "There ya go then...."

Thats not counting people who get defected and simply cop it sweet because they know for a fact their mods are defectable - whether they like it or not...

And it doesnt count if you drive an orange car >:D Orange car = Kick Me In the Balls, Please Officer

From my experience with him, he seems like a fairly decent guy just doing his job.

And he explained why the bc and wheel studs were illegal. Then gave me an opportunity to fix it up. Can't ask for more than that I guess?

That's the key if you act like a tosser then they are going to treat you like one. If you are respectful and present yourself well it is surprising what you can get out of.

The other thing is people tend to power trip and need to be in control, if you look intimidating or aggressive people will tend to react the same way back trying to prove their authority and status as the alpha, this will only make your problems worse. If you submit and let them know that they are the one in control they will almost always act differently and more in your favour.

Lots of interesting psychology studies on things like this.

Of course nothing is going to get you out of having a zip tie'd front bumper bar and a car that looks like it is going to cause a major accident.

saturday nite... drive my pos even tho i knew i shouldnt have

pulled up in a servo on the phone. stopped at the entrance. car pulls up behind me and waits. i look a bit closer its a cop car...

anyways, i take off to go park next to an ultimate pump (2x 90deg turns) and hear my awesome diff doing its thing chirping its tits off on the smooth surface haha.

they pull up next to me. gimme a death stare, i jump out, "how can i help you officer?" get a reply "Regency for you mate" i look confised... "whys that?" :P he asks me for my license, then tells me "just go home, dont be an idiot" and leaves.

so here i am left standing with a roll cage, locked diff, slammed, wheels, straight through twin pipe, in primer with rivets in the rear quarter and zipties holding the thing together.

not a bad nite lol.

    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
    • If they can dyno them, get them dyno'd, make sure they're not leaking, and if they look okay on the dyno and are performing relatively well, put them in the car.   If they're leaking oil etc, and you feel so inclined, open them up yourself and see what you can do to fix it. The main thing you're trying to do is replace the parts that perish, like seals. You're not attempting to change the valving. You might even be able to find somewhere that has the Tein parts/rebuild kit if you dig hard.
    • Can you also make sure the invoices on the box (And none exist in the boxes) are below our import duty limits... I jest, there's nothing I need to actually purchase and order in. (Unless you can find me a rear diff carrier, brand new, for stupidly cheap, that is for a Toyota Landcruiser, HZJ105R GXL, 2000 year model...)
