Not that i heard of. Where are you thinking of purchasing the console?

So far i think JB prices are the best.

One query though, are warranties on the PS 3 any good at all? Is it worth to get the warranty?

I might get it from JB as well there usualy the cheapest, But iam thinking of getting a Xox 360 it's alot cheaper then a PS3.

if you can make sure it was made before March 08... cheaper to have it moded (firmware upgraded). Otherwise will cost upto $150 (vs $50 for the flash) to mod cause they need to remove the newer liteon drives and replace with something like the samsung MS28.

Is there gunna be any new console release any time soon?

Because i would hate to buy a xbox 360 or PS3 and a new one comes out a sort time after.

They have only really been chipping away with "minor" upgrades, the HDDs are back to 60gb and you get a dual shock controller standard with them now. But HDDs are easily upgraded for $100 odd and you can do it yourself, as for a whole new release I think it may still be a while yet. As for price I'm tipping that they may drop a bit in the new year as they haven't really dropped much in the last 6-9months but they give you a crappy game as a bonus now.

Do you mean a modded PS3 or Xbox360?

PS3 graphics are far superior if you have a decent LCD/ Plasma.

My 46" bravia shows a definite difference when the 360 is plugged in compared to the PS3. I played GTA on both, and the textures, the panning and the shadows were all much more detailed on the PS3.

Games wise, most decent games are dual released. Exceptions being Halo and MGS 4, GT5 and Forza.

For my money, they deciding factor was blu-ray.

Anyone who says they cannot see the difference between blu-ray and regular DVD is either blind from watching too much downloaded porn or using RCA plugs on a CRT television.

HDMI connection, in 1080p with blu-ray is noticably better. Watching movies like Transformers, Underworld, Iron man or even Speed Racer show this abundantly.

And you haven't seen the movie "300" until you've seen it in high def. Second only to seeing it at IMAX.

For me, the 360 controller is a little cumbersome, but then again, I only noticed that after picking up the PS3 controller.

Region free gaming is good too. PS3 games from the US, Hong Kong, UK, whatever, all just slot straight in, though be aware that the online content is often only for the AU games.

Oh, and no matter what you decide to get, the must have games are:

Elder scrolls: Oblivion. (This may result in many hours lost in front of a screen though)

Grid (best drift Sim I've played so far)

Call Of Duty 4 (possibly 5 too, haven't added that yet)

Games to get to prove to the missus that she can play too:

(important! if you want to have sex ever again, get a karaoke game, or a cutesy game, like "Little big world" sure, it might cost you a bit of game time, but I'm sure you'll agree the occasional BJ off-sets this completely

To avoid:

Quantum of solace: It's COD4 on rails with less weapons, more predictability and repetitive motion. Ebay it if you must, but don't spend more than $50

Need for Speed series (except Most wanted, or Underground 2. Undercover is pending review, though not hopeful.)

Juiced 2. Crap.

The Force Unleashed: Lucas arts cashing in. A predictable, banal RPG/ FPS. It hurts that such a great sci-fi is made into cheap shit like this.

You can still download content for overseas games by creating an account for that specified region, eg. If you want add-ons for a US region game, just make yourself another PSN user account and select US as country. This allows you to log into the US PS Store and download the stuff you want. Worked for me with my MGS4 game.

+1

I have just got a PS3.... it's ace!!!

I've now transferred all my Top Gear Vids, and my fav tracks across to it.... and my PSP plugs straight in and works a treat.

Now for the big screen TV :)

Little big planet is cool... but the other games are not my cup of tea (Need for speed-something, and something of 2). Oblivion and GH4 are on teh cards ASAP!!!

LOL!! I bought a PS3 from JB hifi last week too :P. I immediately traded Little Big Planet for Need For Speed Undercover :D.

Ahhh the age old battle (no not you Age :)). Just buy both....In saying that the ONLY reason I bought a 360 was to play Gears of War 1 and 2 Silly? Nope, worth it I say, kick ass games!

I prefer the PS3, it's kick ass with the remote as a bluray player and the graphics are awesome. The games looked better on Xbox at first but they are getting better on the PS3 and the Xbox's are now showing age (again not you Age :)). The free online is a big bonus on the PS3 as well, it's p|ss poor having to pay for Xbox live to play against your mates.

Xbox is the better option IF your wanting nothing more than JUST a gaming console for yourself @ home.

However if you want anything of blu ray, a hard drive, free online and all that jazz... PS3 all the way home, no question...

But it comes at the added cost etc.

The latest Gen (Jasper) Xbox's are now filtering into the market in the US (so no doubt here too) and they should hopefully finally not suffer from the RROD... if thats actually true still remains to be seen however, but hopefully 4 years on its been fixed lol.

Surf the net for more info on Jasper if a xbox is what your after :P

PC gaming anyday though :nyaanyaa:

Especially now Blu Ray players are less than $170 for a PC if that was something you were thinking about.

Time to setup my media centre!!!

Agreed.

And if you have a PSP, that say has Top Gear ep's on it, then you can transfer them across to the PS3 HDD.... i have :D (also a PSP can act as a 2nd controller)

Now i have most of my music, all my Top Gear vids on the PS3 HDD.

All i need now is to convince the GF on a Plasma biggy TV ;)

meh ive found that using the 360 as a media centre is far better and easier... like you said, blueray players for PCs are under 200 now. My 360 is hooked up to a media box i made out of an old PC which is connected to my home LAN, rather then relying on an inbuilt HDD.

Graphics detail is minimal to say the least at the moment, by the time its capabilities are fully utilized they will be on to the next gens.

Plus paying for online play far outweighs the cost of actually buying games.

As for FPS on consoles, i thought you can use a keyboard and mouse on a PS3? Whereas for 360 owners you have to buy a XFPS Sniper?

When GT5 is released i will buy a PS3 as i did with the PS2 and release of GT3. Hopefully by then someone would have worked out how to hack them... altho i dont mind buying it just to play GT5

Well that's good.

It means i can still feel happy that i spent $500 on something worthy, and lets face it with no car to pour cash into, it's not like i have much to look forward to ATM :P

I'll still place bets now, When GT5 is released there will be a GT5/PS3 bundle that'll be around the $500 mark! ;)

I downloaded that new "Home" thingy for the PS3 toady... bit like 2nd life.

Could be good, but as it's in the Beta testing stage it's not much....but i can see it having potential.

    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
