Hi all

I own a r32 gts-4 with a gtr gearbox until recently i had no problems shifting gears and i was not hard on the gearbox at all, unfortunately a couple of days ago it decided not to go into reverse for some reason and Ive been scratching my head trying to figure out how to approach the problem i do have a service manual for the r32 gtr which has gearbox removal in it and all the components listed.

If you guys know any diagnostic ways to find out the problem i would greatly appreciate that.

And by the there is no crouching between gears or shift noise it just wont go anymore.

sorry for the off topic question.

But did you notice the diffrence going from the shorter GTS4 gearbox ratio to the taller GTR ratio? Did you loose much acceleration?

Cheers big ears.

I did not do the conversion as the car came from japan with the gtr box already, as for the acceleration Ive only compered it to a gtst r32 and it had far more acceleration then mine but it was lighter so the test was inconclusive.

could be the reverse lock out spring, I lost reverse last year, and it turned out the 2.50 reverse lockout spring had snapped in two,( a few hours labour and it was fixed, if it's this don't let the shop rip you off) it stops you from going into reverse from 5th etc. A search should dig up a few old threads on it.

Its been suggested to me that the lockout spring may be one of the problems.

Thanks for the information mate ill look that up.

Regards

had the same problem. $2.50 lockout spscring snapped . do a search, someone posted a diagram from the manual showing the location & part #.

you'll need to undo the crossmember and lower the box to access the cover. located on the passenger side of the shifter from memory.

    • Oh, also, forgot to add these photos I believe.
    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
