For those of you who know Mark & Julie Simpson, aka “The Olds”, you will know how important they are to the Adelaide car scene. They have helped a lot of people, including us, in everything from their drifting careers through to their personal issues.

There is normally an annual cruise to raise money for Youth Suicide Awareness, a charity The Olds created after their son Ben sadly passed away in 2005. The Olds are organising a charity on the exact anniversary of Ben’s passing next year, but we thought they deserve a cruise in THEIR honour, to thank them for all they have done for everyone, and the scene as a whole.

To show our love, support and appreciation to these two wonderful people, we have decided on a cruise on Sunday 28th December. The cruise destination is Victor Harbor. Meet point is to be advised. Rough meeting time will be about 10.30am.

We ask that each car donates $5. All money raised will go to Mark & Julie to donate to the Youth Suicide Awareness fund. We personally saw a lot of people opting not to donate at the cruise on the weekend just gone, yet still accepting maps and participating in the cruise, & that’s just not on. $5 per car is very, very reasonable – especially when each car normally has 2 or more people – and will have a considerable impact on the lives it will later affect thanks to Mark & Julie.

Cruise maps will be distributed upon donation at the entrance. We know it is often said, but people breaking speed limits & trying to be heroes throughout this cruise will NOT be tolerated. You will not look cool (the import community already has enough of a bad reputation as it is), but instead will make an idiot out of yourself when you are asked to leave. Please respect that this is a charity event.

For those of you who don’t know Mark & Julie, this is a great opportunity to come and say hi & spend time with others.

We look forward to seeing you all there to show your appreciation, show off your cars and use this as a good opportunity to farewell 2008 with fellow import/car enthusiasts.

Please note this is not instead of the Ben Simpson Memorial Cruise. The Ben Simpson Memorial Cruise will be going ahead early next year as planned. We know this is short notice as it is a last minute thing, and although the Ben Simpson Memorial Cruise is probably the biggest event on the annual cruise calendar, we’d really appreciate it if you could dig deep and attend this cruise also, not just to raise money for the charity, but moreso to show Mark & Julie how important they are to our community (and for those who don’t know, to come and see for themselves).

More details will be added as we go, this is just to get the ball rolling & give people the heads up on the date so they can keep it free.

See you then,

Lindo & Bec

I'll see if I can make the meet spot, but not the cruise. I may be a little "seedy" as it is my birthday 2 days before and I usually stay drunk-ish from xmas thru to new years ;)

lindo..... do you know what the rules are in the way of charity events and permits. I had one for the memorial cruise last year and would love to come for this one in the 31 but it will need a permit.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
