Hey guys,

There are 2 rubber fuel lines going to and from the tank on my gtst. they are very old and brittle and need replacing NOW.

(one started leaking - thats how i noticed)

getting to the front of the pipes (where they go from rubber to matal) is easy as this is infront of the tank.

hard part is the back as the pipes dissapear in above the tank.

so.. has anyone ever dropped a tank down? it is just a matter of removing the filler pipe

and then lowering the tank down onto stands by undoing the 'straps' that hold it?

any advice appreciated

*sigh wish i posted this earlier*

Kind regards,

Zennon

ok so here is how the events transpired yesterday.

step one - reverse sexy skyline onto car ramps

post-31383-1229833110_thumb.jpg

then thought i would have to remove the filler pipe from the tank here

post-31383-1229833123_thumb.jpg

then realised thats crazy talk - all id have to do is remove this bolt where the filler pipe bolts to the car

post-31383-1229833134_thumb.jpg

like so

post-31383-1229833145_thumb.jpg

and rubber around filler hole just pushes out like so

post-31383-1229833154_thumb.jpg

then undid the two straps holding tank like so

post-31383-1229833180_thumb.jpg

then noticed wire going into boot pulling tight so thought i better open boot

so yeah opened boot - plug is under that silver cover

(also note here the little panel i could probably have done this job through if only i opened the boot BEFORE dropping the tank!)

post-31383-1229833195_thumb.jpg

here we can see the wire going into the boot (vertical wire) and then the two pipes im replacing

one fuel line going to engine and the other the return i assume

(or maybe that third pipe i didn't touch is the return - ah who cares anyway)

this is one of the old pipes

old ones were 8mm but replaced it with 7.5mm since thats the closest thing superfags had

hey mate im reading your tutorial (which is great btw) but i cant workout how you can get to fuel lines without lowering the tank coz as far as i can see the lines run along the top of the tank, between the tank and the car(underside of the boot floor). i may be wrong about this as i haven't has TOO good a look yet. My 32 gtst was leaking fuel the other day after running for awhile. It leaked overnight and has now stopped. So I'm not sure if it's a busted seal or busted hoses (the car hadn't been started in 2 years due to defect) the car is actually running pretty good right now but im worried about this leak. The thing is- I ran the car for 15 mins today and it didn't leak a drop so I can't even see where it's leaking from and am confused. Sorry for the gigantic post. Hopefully anyone else reading this can offer some helpful insight.

Cheers in advance!

I strongly recommend not removing filler necks at all unless 100 percent nessesary, the o rings expand with fuel fumes hitting them if your lucky you can reuse them but the best thing to do is keep neck on and remove the pump than the line next to pump, I just lowered with jack, when raising have someone to make sure filler neck is in right position or It can get messy lol trust me from experience. Of you do remove filler mark location cause there is 6 different areas it can go back into :)

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
