Ben Simpson Memorial Cruise - 2009

Recommended Posts

some nice cars out there, lil dissapointed by the boys in blue over use of the yellow sticker.

they had 3 cars and a defect bus there attacking randomly as many people as possible while the cruise was leaving. showed a lot of disrespect to the memorial and to the charity we were donating to in my opinion, very disapointing.

Some nice cars out there, Got some nice pics as well, lil dissapointed by the the cops wrecking the start to the night. But the rest of the night was great

I was under the impression they don’t just drive around in that van, meaning it was preplanned prior to the meet up. 1 guy acting a fool, he deserved to get done. but even if that’s what sparked it, wouldn’t you expect just 2 to 4 cop cars to be there.

yes they could have blocked exits and it was good they didn’t go that far, im sure hj's woulda been happy with them getting attacked in the process.

also depends on the defects if its for 2 bottles of nos hanging out the bonnet then all well and good. but a suspected bov type of defect would have grounds for a "wtf im here to donate to charity"

accountant here, care factor for spelling very minimal

any 1 get defected for low mounted teddybear?

Old Jules and I wish to say a special thanks to everyone on this forum who attended...your continued support means so much to us.

hey guys,

don't own a skyline (black 09 subaru liberty gtb) but came out on sunday. great event and was more than happy to contribute to your cause.

keep up the good work and will catch you guys (and girls) next time.

Woo my car in Video 2 @ 3:12.

First cruise for me, had great fun. After leaving the start, was following a group down, got stuck at a set of traffic lights, the rest went ahead. So it was me, a Subaru, and a sprinter (corolla, or something)...we had no idea where to go, so we kept going straight :). The Subaru pulled over to the side of the road, the sprinter kept following me, i had no idea where to go, other then into the hills, so that's what i did. I eventually decided to pull over and talk to the guys behind, i told them i had no idea, but i had a GPS. So i said the meet point is at loberthol, we'll catch up to them there. Off we set, just me in my skyline being tailed by a sprinter, he kept up quite well even though i wasn't going too hard. We eventually came to an intersection, and low and behold, the cruise was going past as we got there, i then got behind a Toyota mark II and followed him, he was behind the Hummer - that thing was insane to watch. So i eventually got to the meet point, and then managed to keep with the pack for the remainder. From the meet to the end, i was following the white Subaru "Mr Ed", i also had another Subaru behind me i think.

But all in all, had fun, definitely want to go on a practice cruise, and definitely want to go next time...hopefully next time is also later in the day so i can make it. Thanks Mark and Jules for organizing it.

Thats why I stopped filming until the 2nd group arrived - group 1 was spread out too far apart - had few cars coming every few minutes. I guess the minutes of no cars showed who the noobs were in the "group 1" lol

Was my first time filming something like that so next time = bigger memory card - 4GB aint enough to film the whole arrival at Lobethal at 720P, tri-pod - stop the shaking, and film the whole thing and cut out the empty scenes.

jesus christ. enough with the knocking of police. they came in and defected a 180 after he was a bit of a muppet leaving the meet point about half an hour earlier. and then he decided to come back and bought the police with him. police cars had been cruising through since i got there at about 6:30 and not doing anything to anyone until the guy in the 180. he got what was coming.

i think in total there were 2 or 3 defects, which out of the nigh on 500 (!!!) cars is a pretty good result, and by good result, i mean LESS THAN ONE PERCENT! obviously bad news for the guys that got done, but if the police really were out to get us, how many people do you think wouldve left the meet point without a fancy new sticker on their windscreen?

yes i think the police shouldve exercised a hasty retreat after defected the first car, but honestly, if you werent there and paying attention, dont comment.

the dude left to get petrol with some of his mates, i don't see how that is any " muppet" sort of behaviour. how is it that your so quick to judge him, when the only thing he was trying to do was support this cruise, wasn't that the point of people coming. i'm sure if this wasn't a charity cruise, he would have even bring the thing out! i don't believe anyone who came deserved being defected if they werent doing anything wrong. its really sad that the amount of people that think the percentage of defects were "reasonable" was ok, what if that percentage happened to be you or one of your mates? you'd really think that would be ok then?? the worst part of it all, was it was a cruise to support something special, so your a total d*ck for saying what you said

regards di

more sau love :(

how about a agreement to disagree

scandy feels fine and dandy as there was not a crazy usa type police crack down scene

dan thinks it was preplanned attack on the cruise in the interests of boosting the economy or something like that

stranger danger man feels he wasnt acting a fool and did not deserve to be defected.

so did you actually see us leave and can you explain how he was been a soo called muppet i can tell ya one thing ya muppet i can seriously vouch for a very good mate of mine that he didnt do anything stupid leaving or coming back oh and if he was been stupid i must of been drivin like a dick too cause i was right behind him now if u remember soo well about this certain incident u could tell me what car was behind that white 180 DID YOU EVEN SEE THE CAR IN PERSON !!!!!

i love opening cans of worms.

i heard someone caning it down the road, looked up and saw the car in question, so sue me for making an assumption that it was infact that car responsible.

yes, youre right. forgive me for hearing a car caning it, looking up and only seeing one car driving and putting 2+2 together. how very stupid of me.

if you wanna continue this conversation, pm me.

It really makes me laugh when i here this, people think that cos there not doing anything wrong that it is wrong if the cops give them a defect :P If you mod your car illegally, then you deserve to get a defect at anytime. Just cos its a cruise for charity is no reason for people to get away with driving a defectable/dangerous car.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
    • Shock tower brace is in +5Kw....LOL
