The hicas light stays on occasionally, after i start the car. If I turn the car off and on again, it goes away.

It's happened maybe 6 times now, in the last 3 weeks.

It never comes on after start up, while driving.

When its on, theres no issue with steering etc. Car drives normally. So i'm guessing some sort of wiring fault with the light, or a switch?

Any tips or known issues to look for here?

The power steering fluid was on the low mark when i checked, so i topped it up, but that wasnt it.

My hicas is intact, and i have no issue with it. So the lock bar suggestion isnt what i'm looking for.

cheers

  • 5 weeks later...

ive tried getting into hicas diag mode. no luck.

can someone spell out the procedure for me?

this is what i tried.

start engine

turn wheel left then right 20deg 5 times (i tried 6 times too)

press brake pedal 5 times (tried 6 times too)

then i read somewhere, a faulty steering posiition sensor will prevent entering diag mode

if i have the procedure correct, i need some info on the steering position sensor. ie. how to get to it, and remove/replace, or test.

if i have the procedure wrong, slap me, and show me the way

cheers

the day i removed my hicas was NOT a day i look back fondly upon!

make sure you have a good couple of hours... its kinda tricky to get happening the first time

Dont listen to him :) It is a simple job and if your on a hoist will take about 40-50 mins max. And i even had to drop the rear muffler to get at one side.

Use the guide on SAU and its a piece of piss. Even easier if you have a mate helping.

I had this same problem, I ended up ditching hicas but before I did I found that just disconnecting, cleaning and replugging in ALL the wiring plugs to do with steering and hicas stopped it from happening. I couldnt trace it to just one connection.

i've read conflicting reports on r33 lockbar installs.

what i want to know is....

does it affect the progressive power steering? i.e. does your steering still remain lighter at low speeds, firmer at higher speeds?

or is that lost, and you get heavier steering all time when you fit a lockbar

edit: is the steering position sensor used for anything besides hicas? does it need to work?

so far i havnt even noticed a difference in the steering with the lockbar.

No noticeable change in heavyness at low speeds etc etc so couldnt comment. Im taking it to the track on tuesday. 1st trackday without it so ill let you know if it was much different to with it in.

Daily driving tho.. hasnt seemed to effect much

Yup yup. Leave the computer where it is and just remove the globe.

The track (just got home) was amazing.

I wish id put the lock bar in sooner. Coming out of corners a bit quick and having the ass step out is so much more controllable! I was just stomping on it in 3rd and "power sliding" haha. With the Hicas i was getting thrown all over the place.

I got a couple of vids of some minor skids ill link when theyre uploaded. But the best ones were at the end of the track that there was nowhere to video from

So, go DO IT DO IT!!

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
