gtrkiet
the ducted a/c works good but it makes me sticky, its not 'cold'. i just got back from a mates house and he has one of those that stick outside your window, DAM that thing is cold! but yeah how much should i be paying for a reverse cycle split system, with installations? Madaz
na nothing wrong with cunno's i can ask my mate how much to install but you may need a sparkie to wire it up Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/254977-what-ac-do-you-guys-have-in-your-house/#findComment-4399900 Share on other sites
skyhighR33
we have a evap air con it goes through ducts to each room of the house works alright but they fry motors and split belts in no time. cunnos have great delas on cheap aircons i was thinking of one of them a mate has one in his caravan typeplace and its better than the mitzi which he just brought and cost him a fair bit for. Dohmar
na nothing wrong with cunno's i can ask my mate how much to install but you may need a sparkie to wire it up Get a 4hp split system... compressor and all the noisy stuff stays outside and the vent/control unit stays inside so the noise is kept to a minimum. Those suckers work bloody nicely... Dunno what brand cunnos have but I'd be going to harvey norman or radio rentals, one of those places that can usually hook u up with an installed cheap -D Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/254977-what-ac-do-you-guys-have-in-your-house/#findComment-4399945 Share on other sites

tryandcatchme
if you want quality ring and aircon place, they dont charge as much as think, itl cost u bout 500 bucks to get someone to install what u choose, then choose price u can spend. u need a 1.5 or 2hp model do fine for that area,we have a daiken invertor 6.5 hp split system and it costs nothing to run and does my whole 4br house,so they come in all sizes and never heard they break down, done heaps research before purchase Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/254977-what-ac-do-you-guys-have-in-your-house/#findComment-4404442 Share on other sites
Munkyb0y
mitsubishi are really good too reliable, freezing cold, usually a bit cheaper than the fujitsu etc. theyre well made units. forget the chinese ones. they dont even conform to their own specs. a 2hp for a single room would do the trick i have a 3.5 hp in the loungeroom and it reaches most of the house. tryandcatchme
Whatever model you choose just make sure its an inverter model, they cost less, use less energy and tend to be a lot quiter in operation Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/254977-what-ac-do-you-guys-have-in-your-house/#findComment-4404528 Share on other sites

They are oh so quiet barely notice it being on and they cool the room down in no time.....current temp in the room is 21.5 deg Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/254977-what-ac-do-you-guys-have-in-your-house/#findComment-4404562 Share on other sites
GTR1993
At uni a guy done his thesis on inverter vs normal compressors for ac as he works for an AC company. It worked out if you run the AC flat out, normal is slightly better, but when the compressor does not have to work continuously, inverter is better by about 15% or so. He said for a regular house situation inverter is the way to go. SLED
thanks for the info Alex EDIT: I'm looking for an inverter model at a good price to do a small unit in Walkerville.......the area is about 20 - 25 square metres. Already done a bit of homework and found that "Good Guys" have 1.5hp split units in Mitsubishi, Panasonic & Fujitsu for approx $1000. I'm hoping 1.5 hp is enough to do such an area.......anyone have any better prices or ideas? ISC-Performance
surprised no one has mentioned running costs. Evap/ducted is about 10-12c per hour to run where as the on the wall small units are approx 50-70c per hour. Damo_R34
Try this Pete http://fairair.com.au/Calculator.Size.aspx hrm, thats pretty comprehensive. maybe this: http://www.aircondirect.com.au/ac_direct/pages/HeatLoad.jsp then, to convert from kW to Hp multiply by 1.34 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/254977-what-ac-do-you-guys-have-in-your-house/#findComment-4404975 Share on other sites
