Help not boosting over 10PSI. WTF!

Hey guys i was reading my boost gauge the other day thinking that my boost was set to 12psi. Its only reading 10psi. I have recently put a intercooler on and have resulted in the following setup for my boost controller.

Hes the situation. My boost controller - turbosmart one. is connected to the bov vacum line and the wastegate wtf.

Is this right? I also cant connect the vacum line to the turbo pipe as there is no plug to connect to. And i have already disconnected the stock boost controller.

any pics welcome, thanks in advance

I have a Turbosmart Bleed T on my 32 and you don't put it anywhere near the BOV vacuum pipe!!! It tee's into the line from the compressor to the wastegate actuator (the little round thing on the outside of the compressor cover. That is where it has to "bleed" off air to fool the wastegate into thinking it has to wait 'longer' until the factory 7 or so PSI boost is reached, therefore having to make more boost to get to the seemingly 'factory' level! Hope this helps also...the bleed valve arrow must be pointed towards the wastegate actuator, not towards the compressor cover. PM me if you want any more details... Good Luck!

ok ive given that a go but i connected a hose appearing from the turbo out piping going to the throddle and another to the wastgate. Now its boosting unlimited boost ? I cannot control it!

Does anyone know why cause it boosted to 14psi but goes higher. might blow the turbo if it happens to boost high.

thanks in advance

dude..

it's quite simple..

On a stock R33 RB25 setup, there is a hose that goes from the wastegate acutator diaphram (the thing that is like a little cylinder that sits next to the tubo) to the standard boost solenoid, which in turn connects to a little nipple on the intercooler pipe near the turbo somewhere.

All you need to do is connect the bleed valve in place of the standard boost solenoid.

the direction is like so.

From intercooler pipe, to the bleed valve, out of the bleed valve to the wastegate acutator diaphram nipple.

The way it works is this.

The factory computer sends a message to the factory solenoid to open the wastegate fully by "X"psi (I think it is 7psi on the R33).

The solenoid does this by allowing some air pressure to go through to the diaphram.

You accelerate, the boost builds up, the solenoid starts to open the wastegate.

All you are doing is replacing this solenoid with the Bleed valve.

so you need to disconnect the slenoid and use the hoses off it to connect the bleed valve.

Make sure it goes the right way.

The bleed valve should have come with directions or at least a directional arrow to show the direction of flow.

Hose from Intercooler pipe goes IN to the bleed valve and the other side connects to the wastegate.

Make sure that you have the valve completely open at first so that it is not boosted at all to start with.

then you close it up a little and go for a drive, then adjust more as you need.

If you need more help, PLEASE take it to a performance shop.

GTST, you forgot to mention that there is also a BOV return line outlet, which runs a hose to the factory boost solenoid...

WLD747, your boost controller should run like this;

intercooler piping oulet - boost controller - wastegate

You need to blockup you BOV return line (it's on a hard bit of plastic near your wastegate acuator). Leave your factory boost solenoid plugged in.

I'd go and buy some good high-temp hose with clamps, as the factory hosing is shit and splits easy.

Hope this helps :(

Wild747,

Any vacume source is fine for opening the wastegate (even if it is tee'd to the BOV )you then fit the turbo smart restrictor between the source and the wastegate.

if it is a bleed it also go's between the the vacume source and the wastegate.

Always start setting boost with the valve fully closed as your turbo wont take too many of those over boost's

adjust one click at a time even if for the first few clicks dont seem to affect boost levels.

  • 8 months later...

i've got the same problem sort-of with my mates car i've hooked a few valves up in other cars but i did his and it don't make any difference its a r33 with standard ic pipping off the lil vacum nipple i put it as:

nipple-standard boost solenoid--- wastegate

|

bleed valve

wat am i doing wrong it runs 7 pounds without the standard boost solenoid and 9 with it

wat else can i try

thanx

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
