Hi Guys,

I've recently got my R32 GTR on the road... and I'm noticing that within 500km, im smelling fuel in the oil... its quite noticeable if you do an oil change and let the old oil sit in a bottle for a day or so.... I'm wondering if its just overfuelling and getting into the oil past the rings. I get a small ammount of black 'dust' on the rear bumper after a few days of to-and-from work.

I'm going to do an oil and filter change again tomorrow morning and get it on a dyno to see if its just overfuelling, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has noticed similar themselves or had any ideas of what the problem might be?

Cheers!

-Shaun

Is it ever hard to crank over in the morning after sitting overnight?

As in, it cranks, suddenly slows, then fires and starts up?

I had same issue in a CA powered 180sx, it turned out to be leaking fuel injectors. I would drive the car around like normal, no issues. Park the car overnight, but becaue injectors where dirty and stuck open, the pressure left in the fuel line would force some of the fuel out through the injectors, and into the clinder caverty. Overnight, the fuel was make it's way past my worn rings, and eventually dribble into the sump, mix with the oil, and thin out my oil.

I had the injectors removed and tested, and they where horrbily dirty, boardering on replacement, but had them vigorously cleaned, re-tested, and after they where confirmed working alright, had them refitted.

Car drove MUCH better, was punchier on acceleration, but went from using 1 tank of fuel within 270kms to using 1 tank of fuel every 400kms.

Cranks over easily any time.. warm or cold, even after leaving it for a week and a bit being on holidays, was easy to crank over.

What you're suggesting makes alot of sense, hoever its a remote possability in my case... this engine came out of a half cut a few months ago, but everything is in really good nick, right down to the sides of the cam lobes being sharp enough to cut you! Makes plenty of power, solid 175psi dry compression across the board etc. I've not run injector cleaner or anything thru it yet - worth a shot though.

I'm gonna be fitting some big injectors in the next month or so to go along with a vipec ECU - all in preperation for some -5 turbos... if its leaky injectors, that'll fix it for sure.

Cheers!

the cranking issue could mean a faulty fuel pump

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
