Hey all I just ordered and installed a consult port on my car to see if it would help me find where my error 21 is coming from. I installed the application on my laptop and everything seems to be working fine, I did the balance test and played with a few of the settings just to make sure and all is good. Turning the cylinders off one by one changes the note and when turned back on it returns to normal. When I activate the base idle adjustment it seems to get a smoother idle than when I turn it off. Neway I am straying, I did a diagnostic and came up with the 21 cleared it using the consult port with just the ignition on checked it with just ignition on and everything came back 55 but as soon as I start the car the 21 shows back up, on ignition on all is well but as soon as I crank it the 21 appears in the diagnostic. Now I did an idle log and will upload and I would appreciate someone who knows how to read it to give me a hand and tell me what it means cause I have no idea. Also I noticed at idle my timing is at 0btc and then increases with revs, is it suppose to be at zero on idle?

P.S. Well for some reason I cannot attach files so If you want me to send the log just p.m. me and I will send to email or something.

Here are the logs I managed to upload them. Can anyone diagnose this or do I need to record a run? Also my turbo timer has mysteriously stopped working, I had not used it for awhile do to the car being parked so I cut it off. Now when I decided to put it to use since I got the car on the road again it doesn't work, the car ignition stays on but the car does not run. Ignition stays on for the allotted time but the car refuses to remain running, can this be because of the 21 error code as well.

all those logs are fairly useless. try get a log with ecutalk and post that (if theres no proper logging for scantech). the cylinder tests dont seem to show much drop at all. with the cylinder tests its often more up to you to work out which cylinder has least differences to engine when its turned off as without a steady idle the logs dont show much

is the engine warm when you get the 0btdc timing? it should generally always be >0 for a normal car, up past 5 most often - but this may just be a symptom of whatever is causing error 21.

Ok will do. I would have done already but when I try to connect with ecu talk it says it is connected the guages don't read anything, but it reads my one fault code the 21. Weird I know but that's just my luck. As soon as I get the ecu talk working I will re-post a log, do you want a log of the car driving normally or just a log of it idling warm for about 5 minutes or so? Also when I got the 0btcd I think the car was warm cause I had just arrived home shut it off and then connected the laptop, I can not be to sure though but I will pay more attention with the next log. Thanks and be on the look out for the next post.

can also try tecu if you want

http://www.ecutalk.com/interface/readme.html

there are instructions for installation there, though only works on COM1 or COM2 (edit the com.dat to COM2 or something, or u double click the port label thing on the main screen, cant remember)

not sure if calumsult has logging or not but thats an option also

try to get log from driving, and try to note when exactly u feel the hesistation or whatever (perhaps try to pull over soon after and stop the log, so you can backtrack roughly how far back in the log and work out roughly where it happened - then u can work out if its gone back to 0btdc at that point or something else funny has happened)

The problem isn't a hesitation its the error 21 I can not get rid of and the problem with my turbo timer keeping the ignition on , but the car does not run it shuts off while all the lights on the dash and everything remain on for the length of the timer. I was asking if seeing 0dbtc at idle was a problem?

0 isnt 'normal', you might hover around 5 perhaps dipping a bit below now and then, but 0 (especially if constantly at 0) isnt normal. but 0btdc timing is most likely just a symptom of whatever is the actual cause (ie the car going into some safe mode due to the 21 error code). i guess get the turbo timer sorted/removed and then see if that was the cause or not

    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it
    • You're going to miss not worrying about rust in the strut towers like the Skyline shitboxes out there
    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
    • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
    • Yeah Jap import. Fairlady Z then! I'm a bit the same.  They've been on my radar for a fair while but then just impulsively decided to buy one!  Was going to just buy an NA and add turbos to it later but decided to save the f'ing around and just buy the turbo version.
