i have not been in an rb30/26 car... quite frankly im not that keen to. a high powered rb30 just doesnt hold that same appeal to me as a high powered or even mild rb26.. its working with what the car came with from factory.. making the best of what youve got. engine transplants are just like plastic surgery... your car may go good.. but everyone knows that its not what it was born with.

i hold rb30 powered gtr's at the same level as VL drag cars.. its just not a gtr anymore.

and to say that japs are scared of big things.. and thats why they dont use them... maybe its because they just dont need to.

For those who want it, fine. It is definately a personal choice how you want to modify your own car.

All these naysayers, have you been in a car powererd by a twincam 30?

I didn't question ability of either engine. The idea of owning one does not interest me so why would I want to be in a car powered by one?

If you can do the same thing, as in make good power and run good times, with either capacity (i.e. either block) then what is the big deal? It is a personal choice which way to do it. There is just a bit more pride and class doing it with the original capacity.

I beg to differ. I feel there is more pride and class in building something different and why would you balk at more torque, earlier power and better drivability?

Better yet, hands up all the cheque-book racers!

Who needs to rev their rb to 12000rpm?

Build a 30/26 rev it to 9000rpm and make 553.5 kw at 4 wheels on pump fuel.

More power and torque earlier, fair enough. But the same times on a drag strip and/or circuit can be achieved either way, so, again as I said, it is a personal choice.

If your builiding the car for street use you simply cannot go past the 30... Simple as that.

And for all you pure breds out there - get with it, the RB30 has been mated with all RB's with great results. Like it has been said before if you can have more power & more torque earlier why not?

Also for all who are saying lets see it rev to 12,000 rpm - that is ridiculous as we are talking about a STREET car, do you rev your car to 12,000 rpm on the street - I would hazard a guess you wouldnt get near or even need 10,000 rpm.

Look at superjet760 - as if you would say no to that!!!

hmmmmm, i do like the idea of keeping the RB26 in my car, my R33 is pretty standard looking (except the LMGT4 rims), no gauges, not lowered etc (except the engine mods) good for resale, but the RB30 sounds sweet, i sponsor robbie 'RIPS' wards car, maybe i should fly up and have a spin in an RB30? :)

just remember boys revs are what kill engines.

So if you can make the same power with less revs and less engine wear then why not? A 3l

BTW give me a billet 3l crank and a R.I.P.S billet main cap bottom end and il go rev for rev with you all the way to 12000rpm

if thats what you like doing. but i cant see the need :)

Yes it is my opinion, aswell as many others.

Dude, look at the times from drags and circuit. You can do the same with both! More average power, over a certain rpm means dick all if you spend your time between 4-8.5k.

You just made a very nonsensical comment there man... "More average power, over a certain rpm means dick all if you spend your time between 4-8.5k. "... if you make more average power between 4000-8500rpm (thats a certain rpm) and spend all your time there, then you will have more acceleration/response between 4-8.5krpm, very very simple.

I don't know why you guys are going on about the RB30 being shit/old/whatever, if you use the RB26 head then you have all the advantage the RB26 has an a dirty old iron block thats 3litres instead of a dirty old iron block thats only 2.6litres. They are both dirty and old, its just that one is bigger than the other. It seems there is a lot of confusion of the old days when the old 2.6litre RB26 beat the older 5litre Oz V8s due to technology... it didn't win because it was smaller, it won because the stuff it had it used better. The ultimate is applying the technology to bigger displacement, you get the best of both worlds.

Look they are both nuggets that empty my wallet, keep me busy, make me drink a lot, force me to spend less time with my family, make me loose hair, made my nuts twist in their sack etc...etc...

I love the RB engine from RB20 to RB30... :sick:

My engine will out torque nearly all RB30's ive encountered and matched the ultimate torque engine RB29 from racepace in all but the very low rev range and was all over it in the midrange where it really counts.

Even the RB25 i just built for NYTSKY matched torque figures with a 400KW 2JZ...its not what you build but how you build it. Just because you use a bigger bottom end does not save it from being a bucket of sh1t.

Wait till i get into the RB30's...ill have a few surprises im sure.

    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks  
    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
