Sorry Benny, no disrespect to your Who's Doing What thread, but I reckon *The Ultimate Tarmac Rally* deserves its own special thread with only 54 days to go!

So here is a spot to keep track of who is running/helping someone to run/helping the event run/helping by watching the event etc etc etc

And probably a spot for organising Tassie catch ups and piss ups... not to mention the resulting war stories.

So I kick off.

Me and my blue steel profile pic are entry 803 in the Early Modern Competition.

GO CAR 803!

Navigating for Steve from Just Jap in the old school 32.

Guessing prep is well under control - no last minute Raceworx fix its or stick its required this year :)

what happened to the r35 ride?

me and dad are back in 895. planning to finish this year, didn't like earth moving last year

I said yes to the Just Jap seat straight after Targa last year before any of the rides in the 35s materialised.

Timing & subsequent luck aside I would have made the same choice I reckon- it's a good, fun, incredibly well prepared car and the new category is a bonus :D

Looking forward to Targa already- Steve and the team are bloody good value.

Just not quite sure how I will work out if we are on track with the touring stages this year- in other cars you always knew you were going the right way when you passed millions of kids in their Just Jap caps. Kinda like a dog marking its territory in that respect

Looking forward to a beer with you at the finish this year Ben!

Daniel and I will be there in Car 128 for the first couple of days.

We'll be taking it one stage at a time.

Target 1 - finish a timed stage.

Everything after that is a bonus :)

I'm hoping PWR get their stuff sorted and I can have a test run at Sandown next week to find out if all the problems we discovered at TWP are sorted. If that all goes well the only thing I'll have left to do is to fix the scar on the front bar where the tow hook was ripped through at TWP.

Did you get accomodation sorted Snowy?

Yeah we got a bed. Unfortunately Dan and I have to share it. And with another 2 guys - so pillow space will be at a premium, but we are told this is an accepted common practise down in Tassie so it will have to do.

It's not ideal obviously - but at least now I've learnt for the future BOOK WELL AHEAD!

:)

Well Phat Timmy and I are teaming up to hold hands in my little 32 GTS-t this year as most of you know :D I can't say how excited I am to be going back! I was really looking forward to navving for Russ in the big gun R35, but getting the Tarmac Magazine financial help and a big hand from Timmy the super-peakin-nav really tipped the decision to run the 32 :)

Biggest news is we're changing pace notes this year, Tim and I both figure we are really craving more information now, though neither of us have the time to write our own notes, so we're making the switch from 1 to 6 over to 1 to 10, with alot more info :) The extra information will hopefully allow us to keep the little RB20 up at a reasonable pace. We don't have the benefit of RB26 power and big clutch stabs this year to cover any small mistakes and get us back up to speed.

Car prep, well, my buddy Elmo and I have been hard at it..... so much for running a cheap race car! lol The car should be good though, it looks the part now, though there's plenty left to do. Corner weighting the suspension hopefully this weekend, making a skid plate tonight and fitting some extra gauges amongst a bunch of other stuff. Oh, and a couple of extra double seat grab bars for Tim :)

We're in category 7, late classic. So I asked nicely for number 32, for R32, so we're car #732 :)

Timmy's a hit with the ladies, "blue hair, blonde eyes" ;):)

So thats why you want me, not for my skills but my 'looks'?? haha!

Speaking of PWR, got that radiator yet?

Yeah got it last week. All in there, haven't gone test and flogging yet, but even idling with just a thermo fan it controls temp alot easier. :)

And yes, you know how it works, you're the bait and get them talking, but I'm "The Driver" and get "the glory"! lolol

Pray for Rain Ben and drive it like dry.... those little 32's are the most confidence inspiring thing I have sat in... Still havent been as quick on some stages in the Evo.

And you are part of the family over here... never under-estimate just how special that is.

At this point its over and out for the X Bunnings mob... but never say never.

If we dont get to the grid, watch out for people in the bush. We do know the good spots, and rally spectating is an art.

Ciao

TT???(maybe)

I've been switching between 1-6 and 1-10 for the last few events and I haven't decided what I prefer yet.

I know some drivers actually driver quicker with the 1-6 becuase there's less info to process, and more marked differences in the corners?

Not good to hear Greg - hope you can work on that never say never bit!

Gee Greg, sorry to hear you might not make it mate, that really is dissappointing. You were having a good crack at Rally Tas too! Some good times there mate, punching well above your weight I'd say!

And sure thing, I DO feel like part of the Tassie family, easily some of the best people I've met down your way mate, in fact, I'd move there in a heartbeat if your weather wasn't so shithouse

I hope something changes mate and you guys can make the start!

Will be sad to see you out Greg, but I wanna hear some of these in the bush in the unlikely event you don't make it to the grid! KLX32915X.jpg

Ive been looking over the samples ive got of 1-10 and I really do prefer them, but will see how we go come recce. I also prefer the Degree first then the direction (IE 5R as opposed to R5). I feel that the driver (not singling out benny here, but every video ive seen and every driver ive been with), listens to the first part of the call more than the second part, whereas if they here the degree first and they can see the corner they don't necissarily need to ask what it was again.

Ill open this up to discussion though cos I believe it only helps everyone!

I'm far from an expert (since I haven't even finished a timed stage yet) BUT for me in the short time I have been playing, when the corners are closely linked (which is when the notes are most important IMO - other than the DANGER DANGER DANGER bits as James likes to say. LOL) but when they are closely linked I find the most important bit of info is which direction the next corner is so I know whether to exit wide or keep in. So if I'm only listening to the 1st bit then I'd prefer the direction at that point.

But as I said I'm still learning so maybe that will change in time.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
