You don't have to be road registered or run on street tyres to run for outright.

If you are a clubman type car or kit car has the be road registered to run for outright, yes you can run on slicks in type 4 but all these cars need to be production based sport sedans or or cars from types 1-3 and cars in SV that have decided to run on slicks.

I was not running my GTR out there i think you where looking at Jason Hay Maroon car, I will try and bring my GTR out for the next round, if i have some spare cash as im trying to finish my Mazda Sports Sedan.

Ahh I thought your nickname was same/similar to the number plate and thought it must have been you.

Well Harry,,,maybe before you post what you think is right I think you should do a little homework. Trouble is you can't because your not here racing this State Championship.

Actually Michele is not missing out on a trophy,,,she will get one but we are missing out on Champ points.

I read in one of your posts that you had a guy up there turning up doing a great time and going home. John did this at almost every round last year. He should not have that luxury and if I was included in the champ points he would have to fight till the last run.

Harry you are not offending me mate,,,I love your input. Michele is very beatable and I will keep her on her toes. Wait till the shorter tracks.

Ben didn't buy his car to race,,,he bought it do trackdays and the like. I only included his car because one day he might and no points.

Neil.

I can see the entry list for Round 1 of the NSW State Championship. Its the only one of its kind entered, and would make the championship a foregone conclusion. None of the other cars on that entry list should be within 15 seconds of that machine. Same would go for last year's Australian Championship. And csanning back through a couple of previous year's NSW Supersprints, its the same story. Very similar cars to what we get up here - grassroots motorsport.

Michelle said she's not getting trophies for FTD

John certainly would have to fight to get a road reg clubman on DOT rubber to keep up with a purpose built sports racing car like the radical! Things like the Radical run in Supersports, which are superior machinery to Clubman style cars. You are eligible for that State Championship. If you so badly want to be in a State Championship Competition, go and play with other cars like yours. Michelle's in a different boat because she bought a car from a defunct category. Its really only suitable to be converted into a hillclimber. how's it go - caveat emptor?

If Ben's car's not relevant to what we're talking about, don't bring it up. No sense buying a car you can't race anywhere, then complaining about it. Its the old golden rule: Check the rules before you lift a spanner, or in this case open your wallet.

I think you may be wrong there i know im backing up my old man but last year was very close at times, Jason with his WRX beat my old man quite a few times, and so did other cars in SV and type 4, you have to still remember we are still road registered and on DOT tyres, look at the results from the weekend, if you take out the 2 type 5 cars for outright as per the series rules the top 10 cars were all with in 1 second, so it will make the whole championship a close battle this year. I call that a good battle.

I think to run for outright in the State sereis the cars has to be based on a production type car.

my point exactly. by excluding the two oddball cars that are vastly superior to anything else running at this level of motorsport, they've made the Championship a real competition between a whole bunch of cars. No one wants to see one single F3000/F2 based open wheeler with a bigger engine trundle around in a class of its own bludgeoning the other vehicles who have no hope of keepign up with a Formula Holden, and walk away with the championship at the end of the year. What an achievement that would be. I would have suported it up here for that same reason. Its a common sense decision.

whether they do occassional beat you is not the point. Thier car's really shouldn't be within 15 seconds of the F4000/Holden at most tracks. Its not fair to everyone else to be competing against that kind of car at this level.

bottom line: get a suitable car for the competition, don't turn up with a totally different league of vehicle and complain until the rules suit you.

Still don't have to be registered or on road tyres to be eligible for "outright".

even a road registered clubman has to run DOT tyres to be eligible for outright. on slicks they go into type 5. Its the rules of the series. You chose to enter the series as it was. If you don't like their rules, don't enter. They don't even have to let Formula Libre cars enter at this level of motorsport. And that's what you run as in speed events (as opposed to races) according to CAMS. F4000/Holden doesn't exist except in circuit racing.

I'm sorry, but they do exist. Ask CAMS.

This may surprise you, but this series is about more than Clubmans!! This is NOT the NSW Clubman Supersprint Championship - They can have whatever title they want to give themselves within this Championship, Outright Clubbie, Outright anything else they want, but it shouldn't be straight out Outright and you don't have to be registered or run street tyres to be eligible for "Outright". I agreed to compete with the current rules, and will abide by the rules, but this doesn't make them right.

Amazing... It's just unbelievable, that you can sit there and whinge about a Formula Holden frequently taking outright at your events and how you would like to bring her or him down, yet cannot, for one moment, fathom why we wouldn't want to right the wrong of having the outright winner stand by and watch the "outright" title being awarding to someone who was slower than them. And you have the audacity to throw your sour grapes analogy in my direction. Un*believable.

If you want to knock off that FH at your events, get a better car and point it around the track better than they do and earn it honestly. No need to fix the event. Outright is Outright.

By all means.... give them a title, call it what you like, but it shouldn't be called Outright.

It is somewhat reassuring to see that the NSW arguments/politics etc are much the same as the ones over here in WA.

Some of the anomolies are head scratching & historical based eg Supra in a different class to GTS-T Skylines.

Some of them are annoying - our AWD class is an outright class so anything goes even your street driven GT-R.

Some of it is CAMS induced silliness eg no open wheelers on temporary hillclimbs but they are allowed on permanent ones. Never mind the fact that the temporary ones are safer in some cases.

Anyway you will see that the outright winners are variously, wings & slicks open wheelers, sport sedans & track day specials. We even get some bloke turn up in a Formula Holden every now & then. Depending on the circuit there is usually approximately a four second gap to the tin tops.

You may want to have a look at the results again, i cant see where its a Clubman Championship, there was 2 clubmans in the top ten, the other finished 8th outright, 4 Evo, 1 WRX and 1 GTR, 1 Commodore and a Honda Civic, to me its a good mix all with in 1 second, looks like most of the outright cars are import 4WD.

He was contantly referring to a clubman rule for their class. This doesn't apply to outright. I keep saying this but people keep going back to the clubman class, you don't have to be registered and you don't have to have DOT tyres to be eligible for outright.

you miss the point entirely. you are not eligible for the championship. you bought and entered a car that you know is not eligible for the championship. you can't really come first if you're not eligible, can you?

you'll either have to get used to watching other people get 1st outright in the championship, or run an eligible car and beat them fair and square???

you beat a bunch of road registered cars by 3 seconds and you want everyone to know you were the real outright winner??? I'd be embarassed to go up and accept the trophy for that.

that's all from me on this subject.

And, I'm referring to trying to change the rules for 2010 NOT 2009. I haven't said anything about trying to get CAMS to see the mistake for 2009. Stop going back over that. I had a ball and will be going to as many as I can. No-one heard a peep out of me on the weekend about the rules. I accept them for 2009, but it doesn't make them right.

The rules are wrong and you want to knock off a tall poppy for being too fast at a STATE LEVEL EVENT... perhaps you should get the ladies trophy for the day.

How Aussie of you.

tall poppy?

too fast?

thanks, the thread needed some light heartedness!

I wasn't referring to me specifically, but you are the one saying my car shouldn't be there. Even though it IS a legitimate CAMS type/category. What other reasons can you give for not wanting it there?

What number was he running?

He was in car #551 Mark Smith. His times are now on Natsoft results. Not sure if CAMS has awarded him his final result and points. I think he was 7th in his class and I think he may get some points. I know he was registered for the championship.

He was going to make some calls today and try to get it sorted.

I'll let you know what comes of it.

Thanks for your help.

Okay, I'll let Bob know as well, get him to follow up because he is not showing up as registered. The original paperwork had the wrong fax number, it wasn't supposed to go to CAMS. I'm not sure what happened at CAMS end, but most of those ones went missing.

    • Welcome to my 2004 Toyota Mark ii IR-V Fortuna (series 2) With a 1JZ-GTE powerplant under the bonnet (hood) it'll give me plenty of scope for power upgrades. For those who aren't familiar with imports, the 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5L 6 cylinder VVTi engine with a single turbocharger. This has the factory R154 5 speed gearbox, along with a aftermarket 2 way LSD differential (brand unknown). Under the arches are a set of CST Zero 1 alloys, 18x9 +30 225/40 up front and 18x9.5 +15 265/35 on the rear. The car was quite low in Japan and there's evidence of the wheels catching the rolled arches/fenders. The tyre's aren't great so I'm in two minds whether to replace both or just the tyres and put up with the wider wheels on the rear. The car still uses stock brakes with the addition of some braided hoses. The exterior is stock with the exception of a BN Sports front bumper and a replacement Fortuna grill  Moving to the interior, the steering wheel has been replaced with a dished MOMO steering wheel (which will get swapped for my Momo Tuner for the time being) Defi Link Gauges are mounted above the climate controls and on the A pillar, the Oil Temp,Oil Pressure,Water Temp and Boost gauges should help with spirited and track driving  The stock seats have been replaced with some retrimmed Recaro bucket seats. Being a larger build these are a little snug, unfortunately the orange isn't for me so I'll look into replacing these down the line. Other modifications include a twin plate clutch, Blitz intercooler, Evolve alloy radiator, a stainless exhaust with decat, HKS EVC-S boost controller and coil overs
    • Apologies for the long read My R34 GTT was up for sale at the beginning of spring due to a few repairs creeping up. The strut tops needed replacing, roof and bonnet (hood) painting (yay for 3 stage pearl) and the underside stripped and treated. I sold the car which allowed me to be in a much better place financially. Leading up to the sale I was already thinking about the replacement. In an ideal world it needed to be a good all-rounder. Something I can mess around with, modify, do track days, do the school run, go on long drives etc.  Options included but not limited to... Laurel C35, Evo 8/9, Civic FD2, Impreza Hawkeye, Aristo and even an Audi S4 Avant (I've already got the Mazda 6 wagon). But there was always one car at the top of the list The Toyota Mark ii JZX110 I found an advert on a Facebook group for an example in Japan, from a seller called Jon at Rising Sun Exports. A few messages back and forth and Jon calls me from Yokohama one morning (or afternoon in his case). He briefly explained the import process, the costs involved and a repeat of the advert. After much deliberation, the price was agreed and the sale was locked in. I've never imported a vehicle so I jumped into the unknown head first. The money transfer was completed through wise.com (fees apply), very easy to use and the money was with him within a day or two.  The car suspension was raised for the vessel and the car dropped off at the port. It was 7 weeks later when the bill of lading was received and the freight invoice sent to me, followed by the export certificate a couple of days after (both digital copies) In the mean time the port had been in contact. I needed an agent to deal with the NOVA (notification of vehicle arrival) along with the tax/duty invoice, this was £75.00. The port also had a fee of £100, I'm guessing to cover the cost of the 10 day 'free storage' and for moving the car off the boat etc. They need a copy of the vehicle invoice, freight invoice and export certificate to allow the vehicle to pass through customs. The vessel arrived on Tuesday 5th August, the tax/duty invoice was generated and sent over. This is generally tax 20% and duty 10% of the vehicle value. Although the invoice came in at a higher amount than I had calculated. Once HMRC had received the payment the vehicle could be released from customs. I thought once the tax/duty was paid you could collect at any point, that's not the case. Your agent will need to book a collection slot, I requested Thursday 7th which was accepted, with a 9:00am slot allocated. It was a 5:00am start from Norfolk heading to Southampton. We eventually found the compound, upon presenting the bill of lading and some ID they released the car (they drove it out of the compound to the front ready for us to load up). The email from the port stated each slot had a 10 minute window, which seemed abit farfetched but the staff said it's not a strict rule. We were there for approx. 30-40 mins in total. A week prior to collecting I contacted my garage and explained the situation, I was able to get an inspection slot that afternoon. For the registration, DVLA require the car to be insured, for this I used a company called Adrian Flux who can insure the vehicle using the VIN number.
    • Hey guys, looking for these side skirts if anyone can help me out.
    • Wife and I are still looking for a new home. One condition was a large enough garage for a full-size lift in one bay. Now if only we could find something... We've been looking for almost a year now.
    • Thanks everyone for the ideas! Sadly, ramps are a no go for me. With young kids at home, I do most of my work late at night while they're sleeping. Starting the car multiple times wouldn't be a great idea.  I'll go see one of those new long reach low profile jacks and take a couple measurements to see if they will fit.
