Inner West Crew Whoretown (toowong/st Lucia/kenmore/indooroopilly And Sometimes Sunnybank?)

Recommended Posts

If anyone is looking for work I recommend asking Tony or Hays Recruitment. Tony put me onto these guys, signed up yesterday applied for a few jobs and got a call first thing this morning. Oh well fingers crossed. Downside is working in the city although that means less petrol, less k's on the coon and more money towards the next car.

Evening chaps

Anyone know much about hubs? Specifically I have to replace some wheel studs on my rear left wheel (33 GTST), the sucker won't move (much like when Dan came and helped with the Laser :P ) and I've thrown everything I can at it...breaker bars, impact wrench, air ratchet... nothing.

Which way should it be turned? Clockwise or anticlockwise? I've been trying both in spurts but I'd like to be sure of one direction and just smash all my weight into it

Congratz mate!

Great to hear that Hays was able to help you out.

If anyone did want to see if I could pull a few strings to get them something then just PM me.

Keaton should have my email as well, so you could just grab it off him if he doesn't mind. :P

Was it a temp or perm role?

Congratz again!!

Nice score col. Now hurry up and buy a GTS-R and sell me the exhaust manifold and heatsheild from the RB20DET-R

Currentyl considering buying an GTS-X with a RB20DET-R in it.... tis a fine looking machine.

Hey guys, whats been happening?

Mate the wheel studs are a press fit so you need to push them out not twist them. Have seen it done with a hammer but this isn't the best way because the hits also smash the axle bearing and can cause it to get flat spots on the rollers leading to failure. If your going to do it this way then you should put a nut just on the stud to stop it from mushrooming. The other way you can do it is to use a ball joint remover although have never used one for this. Acording to the manual you can't remove the hub. Unsure as to why but. To reinstall space it out with washers and tighten with a nut to pull it back in. You'll have to remove the disk and pads to do this as well.

Hope this helps mate

By the way has anyone seen a 32 gtr box forsale around in brissy? Mine split a seal and dumped all the oil and now i've lost 4th syncro and probably cooked it :( Just after a secondhand one at the moment. Pm if you know where one is thanks :)

Cheers Matt

Reel big fish?

are awesome

side note am going to attempt this ;

iCrap 3000

should result in possible awesomeness or epic failure hopefully with lots of fire. Either way

Lol i just opened that up and got no idea what that means or what it gives you. Mind you I'm just a mechanic so not really good at that stuff :)

I approve of this plan as it will hopefully result in one less iPhail in the world :)

This should be interesting.

My iPhone has turned to crap after the OS update.

Well, crap turning into crapper crap. Does a double negative make a positive?

In this case no

    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
    • Hi, i’m converted my r34 4dr auto to manual but need help with gearbox wiring. There are bunch of wires no idea which one for speedo drive, neutral, reverse can anyone help me. IMG_6860.mov
