Hello to Oz from London,

I have bought an R33 Spec II 1997 genuine (unmolested) car recently.

I would like to improve the car in a moderate and aesthetic way without ripping too much apart or

ending up with a messy looking engine bay :D

What benefit would I get from a stainless steel exhaust manifold or an aftermarket downpipe?

(The R33 has a catback 3'' aftermarket exhaust)

Or asked another way:

What modification would you recommend to improve performance (my target would be 300HP for the time being)?

Since the car is a daily commuter and grocery getter, drivability is paramount.

So I'm more interested in higher torque figures than a peaky power curve.

Cheers,

Andrew

Gday Andrew,

Best bet would be to search on this section. There are literally hundreds of tips and pointers of what to do first. Things like you Budget and Availability of parts will be a big factor.

PLenty of guys here started with stock cars, like yours, and then slowly added parts (myself included).

The SEARCH button is your friend.

Good luck.

Unsure wether your capable of getting someone to do nistune in london, or if any mechanics have the facilities to tune them. But computer would be an idea, if you can get your hands on a nistune or power FC even better. FMIC, Some form of upgraded intake or pod, injectors, airflow meter and boost controller. Theres lots of different ways you can go, although im far from being as mechanicly minded as others on this site, I was at the same stageas yourself not too long ago.

Theresa company over here that does rb25 Hi flows for around 900 Australian dollars and to my knowledge they ship overseas name of the company is hypergear.

I started with exhaust, FMIC, boost controller, pod, and computer.

I always found this a good basic guide:

http://nissanskyline.6te.net/tuning_GTS25T.htm

^^ that website is nothing more than dated information that was ripped from the very pages of SAU about 3-4 years ago.

Half the info that was taken, basically stolen, was wrong to begin with as the creator of that website had NO idea about performance.

Torques -

I suggest people use SAU only, and the FI Guide.

It's the reason it was created.

Specifically the "what mods to do first" thread

Im locking this as its covered very well in the above threads... and of the day you've gotta decide what best fits based on your budget

Thanks

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
