Hey all it seems to that the epa are now beening called into to screw people over with modifyed cars as normal blue slip defects are to easy to pass. I am in quite a predicament. I got done 2 weeks ago in newcastle on a friday night. And i was done for all the usuall shit however i was told that i need a emissions test. Here is where it becomes a pain in the ass i am in the air force currently doing training with the amry in albury and there are only 5 places to clear these defects. My question is should i invest in a power fc to tune to pass the test with my front mount and pod inclosed and the exhuast still attatched therefore i wont be pined again or return it to standard than engineer it afterwards just need some ideas. i never had to deal with the pricks so if anyone has been through this shit please help me out

you will need a standard air box and snorkle to begin with as even if the pod is enclosed they wont pass it, u will need a stock exhaust to get under the 90bd limit and even they u still may not pass.

sometimes they will check for aftermarket engine managment and can f#*k you up if you have one

u may not need a pfc but if you fail the test u can invest in one and get a good tuner to tune it to come up with the numbers you need to pass

and yes they are real pricks to deal with

The EPA let me off on the emissions test even if it was a teeny bit over the standard readings, but I had to swap to a stock exhaust and cat so I could pass the noise test. I got defected for exhaust and BOV so it was just a matter of going back to stock. Best of luck!

not true in my case. i have a pod that i had to enclose in a box and i have an aftermarket exhaust (which is still within the legal limit) and a front mount and it still passed all emission tests.

but it all still comes down to the fact that if you choose to modify your car you have to be prepared to keep it legal. ie engineers cert etc

its a very simple solution to keep the cops and epa off your back. sure they can still send you in for test and all that but if you have what you need to say its fine then you wont have any problem getting passed.

yeah i know just i get so shitty that the pull over modifed cars that are safer and run better and cleaner because we maintain them alot better. Yeah i know i need to get a engineers cert and shit but and i know i got to cop it sweet but i wish those fagots pulled over the bombs as well

ohhhhh they pick on the bombs mate, especially p plater bombs. ive seen many cops target them and hand them massive defects. ones they even have to go to court for (bags too low etc etc)

the police love those guys for some reason. probly cos they don't want to peel them off a telepole somewhere

hey mate i just got my car cleared on the weekend the people who you are talking about it wouldn't be the DECC (department of environment climate change) i got it cleared at granville i had to change my exhaust, pod filter and FMIC all back to stock so i advise you do the same.

yeah thanks mate i got the stock gear bar the exhuast which i am just going to fitt a another muffler to bring the noise down. Than i am organising my shit together to get it emissions tested so it will be cleared so they cant hassle me again and i am going to get it all engineered also.

    • Oof. One of my mates has an R34 GT-R that he initially was a "I want to go twins for response and convenience" on his stock 2.6 with Kelford 272 cams, but his friends are pests and were always in his ear about their place being in the bin.   Eventually one of the 2860-5s decided to add it's own input and force his hand, so he conceded and went for a Pulsar 6262G ("G35 900") with T4 0.85 hotside.    Here's an overlay of the results, same cams, same stock bottom end, same boost, same fuel, just from a pretty tidy 2860-5 install to a Pulsar turbo on a 6boost maniifold on BP98.   Worth mentioning here, it may seem like a dead horse thing but the dyno plot doesn't tell the story of how much better it is to drive - transient response has completely changed the car, he used to have flat foot shifting to stop it having to wind up again on gear changes even at >7000rpm... now it builds boost faster than that even short shifting.   It's 100% transformed the car before you even consider how much better it holds on: Pulsar and Garrett aren't the same, but from our experience if you're just looking for a better drive and the ability to make the same or more power I think the divided G30 770 would probably be the smallest I'd go to.

    • Sweet, yeah hoping stock gears will hold up. May use the transbrake feature on hill climb starts so that will test it.
    • Yeah, the thread is only nearly 20 years old.
    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly.
