Correct.

Just a shame a lot of car makers don't see it that way

BMW used to be the wrong way around, push + pull -, but they saw the light several years ago and corrected it to push - pull +. Ford and Mazda have always been the correct way.

Stems back to Audi, who basically invented this, with Porsche, on the Tiptronic. Their mentality was that you push forward to change into first and the seed was sown.. They also knew that some people would not like that, so offered, as a cost option, gearshift buttons on the wheel...

It is a feature used to get people into auto's, who previously would only drive manuals. They still think that they have control. As transmissions get cleverer, with more and more gears (7 for merc, 8 for Lexus) there will be less and less convenitional manuals, with automated manuals, such as DSG, and very computer controlled autos, becoming the norm.

    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
    • Sounds like a misfire. Check fuel pressure and don't even think about going into boost while it's like this unless you enjoy engine rebuilds.
