hi people >_<

got a very quick question, was going to fit a bosch 040 into my R34 but it seemed a little big and sat a little high in the fuel tank for my liking, now i just need to no if any-1 has fitted a 040 in there and how does it go ? or what other fuel pump upgrades can be recommenced or what have people used? :/

Thanks in advance

they are a shit pump mate.

They have a bad mount, are noisy, and will fail prematurely.

Grab a Nismo 275lph pump. They slot straight into the tank like a factory item as they have their own bracket. VERY quiet too. (I have one)

Good for 350rwkw.

I run a 040 in tank and it is fine for 300+ kw, has been running for years race use.

there is one issue with either 040 or 044 in tank, you need to sort out a pickup from the bottom of the tank as they are intended for external use. try a search on here there was a DIY thread with details of the fitting required for a perfect fit

Maybe for the application, but they are certainly not a shit pump.

car's got a fair bit done to it and should be pumping around 280-300kw

I can imagine. I was referring to the fact that 040 pump is not the best pick for that style fuel tank. Not that it can't do the job of pumping fuel.

Too many people jump on here and bag products out without understanding why they fail or do not suit their application. Once again, not you, but many other people feel it necessary to knock something because they had a bad experience or their friend had a bad experience. Most of the time it's installer error or incorrect application usage.

If you want a pump that is going to do the job and will be a direct fit, then grab a Nismo, Tomei, SARD, HKS pump. They are all the same pump so get whichever one is cheapest at the time. If there is one thing you don't want to frig around with, it's fuel for your Skyline. It would have to be one of the most important things to consider in your upgrade list. Don't go second rate and don't be fooled by people who tell you a 255L/hr pump is rated to 500hp because all pumps are not the same.

Have a look at the pressure they pump those flow stats at. The Walbro stuff is fine at idle and for medium upgrades but when you start winding some boost in, you start upping the pressure in your fuel rail. The Walbro pumps reduce flow to approx 160-170L after about 60-65psi rail pressure.

I'm not bagging out the Walbro pump but it has it's place, as does the 040 (which is reaching the end of it's tether at that kind of power anyway)

For 300kw you need a minimum of 180L/hr @ 4bar. I have allowed for a small amount of room but realistically for your application you need something around 200L/hr @ 4bar (or above)

300kw x 1.34 = 402hp + approx 80hp drivetrain loss in a 34 = 482hp at engine.

482 / 6 injectors = 80.33 x 5 = 401.66 cc

401.66 + 15% for extra = 462cc injectors for safety

6 cylinders x 0.462 = 2.772L/min = 166.32 L/hr

166.32 + 10% for safety = 183L/hr

Now keep in mind I have left 15% head room for injectors and a 10% head room for pump above that. In the real world, these figures are a little higher than they need to be but once you start revving past 7k, the fuel demand is very real. Work on these figures to pick the pump and keep in mind that any boost pressure should be added on top of your existing 40psi neutral fuel rail pressure to get the final rail pressure. eg. 40psi neutral rail pressure (when vac line is off) + 20psi boost = ~60psi rail pressure (depending on the reg you have also but this is just a guide). 60psi = 4.08bar so ...

180l/hr @ 4 bar

Agree.

But 350 would be pushing it IMO so I would stick to 320 and under for safety.

you don't have any problems running the fuel a little low ? cos they said that could be a problem for how high it sits in the tank ?

And 3lit3 32 thanks heaps mate for your info/help it is greatly appreciated

I highly recommend the NISMO fuel pump. stright fit in, quite, should run 350 RWKW with no probs. I know a guy had a prob with the bosch 040 in his R34, but thats doesn't mean it's shit cause a lot of people use and they recommend it. But I think for R34's Nismo's the way to go.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
