Can any one help

I have a noisey head on my RB20DET, my self and many other have diagnosed it as noisey lifters clattering, I tried many different additives to try and quieten it down, with no luck, ive tried super thin oils, thick oils, I have changed all the inlet cam lifters (as its that side that was noisy)(comes from just behind the throttle body, so cylinder 4-5 or 6) and it just doesnt go away.

It only makes the noise at idel and off the throttle, under power it only doesnt it at low revs. I am at a loss and just dont know what it is. I thought it must be a big end bearing, causing piston slap, or something more terminal, but i have been chasing the noise for over a year and the engine still goes strong, it has lasted multiple drift days etc. So it cant be to fatal, it just gets noisier. The engine isnt far off standard, just the usual, zorst filter, FMIC, boost, Oil cooler.

I currently have Mobil 1 in the engine, going to try some thick stuff again, but I just dont know what next

Any ideas Guys

thank you.

martin

put the tip of a long screw driver on the injectors and your ear close to the other end . ( or a shortish straight ish piece of garden hose ) should be pretty easy to find the noise . and i have a mate with noisey rb20det injectors . its not a loud tapping noise like lifters but it is more of a loud tick noise

definitely not injectors, i have run the engine with each injector unplugged, all this did was made the noise even louder as the engine went off balance due to miss firing on 5 cylinders. so it is definitely not an injector, it is definitely mechanical noise rearward of the throttle body.

    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
