Hey guys,

My friend just copped a parking fine on malvern road (stonnington).

My question is, if the smart inspector thought the car was a "ford sedan" when it is in fact a "holden hatchback" (re. Astra) can my mate get off the fine?

And to all the people that are going to say just go and pay it, i'm not having a cry, just trying to save him $60 from a little accident.

Thanks for any good info :P

if it was any other council id say pay it, but stonington council are a bunch of scum.

They have parking inspectors who work between 2-6am............ seriously... who does that.....

If i was your friend i'd be asking for proof it was realy his car, and if the parking inspector can make such a basic mistake like getting the car wrong, how can we be certain the car was even parked illegaly....

they will just reissue it, like i said if the correct rego is on there and you ring up and say its not my car

first thing, is the rego the same? bang, fine gets changed.

but yeah, stonnington are the pits, inspectors fined a friend of mine @ 1am on a sat, just pathetic

you see our local paper this week ? How the counil is digging up some road and gave the people who live there 30 minutes notice. Guy at work lives in that street.. his car is trapped in the garage for the next month or 2.

Nope - i no longer live in that prick of a council's area :P

Collingwood now, AND i have a off street park... so no more issues like the ones of Stonnington :)

But that honestly doesnt surprise me they would do something like that. They let the towies park illegally EVERYDAY waiting to tow people... its such a hypocritical revenue council

i got fined outside the emergency department of the alfred, i had dumped my car as my fiance wasn't breathing properly... then i wrote a letter explaining this thinking the council might have a heart.... NUP

If you were parked illegally just pay up. If I remember correctly it should only be $69.

$57 to be exact :)

Couldn't have said it better..

They are allowed to reissue fines and change what they want?

What if he was distracted while fining the car behind my friend, or in front or whatever? That just happened to be a Ford Sedan, and he accidently put in my mates rego, and said stuff it i'll just stick it on this one?

And with the whole Stonnington council thing, my guess is that they don't let anyone off, purely on the fact they assume most people can afford to pay it, and it won't really affect most (financially at least).

How are you going to prove he WAS distracted? That's what it'll come down too. :)

Write a letter, but i can assure you Stonnington are likely to reject it.

Here is a little story - and you'll see why they probably wont care

I had an issue when i used a friends car in very early '08 i was using for 2 weeks, car broke down and i had to leave it there overnight due to a busted fuel pump.

Got a fine (was in a street sweaper zone).

Got it fixed.

Unluckily the same thing happened a week later lol (turned out the replacement pump was a factory fault, warranty job)

Another fine for me (street sweaper day again)

The second time it luckily started that arvo when i came home as it was intermittent, so it worked for about 1km and got me within a few hundred meters of the mechanics.

Second one i didnt have a towie reciept (i drove it away myself). I even told them they could ring the mechanic to confirm the warranty/failed pump

I send this all in the same letter as proof, towie/mech reciept for the first job... but only the first fine was cancelled. Second fine i didnt provide enough proof (i didnt get a warranty reciept)... so i paid it in the end. Too much effort to take time off work, go to mechanic, get reciept, type another letter and so on.

Fken pricks they are. Just fken pricks. I must admit for the year i was in Stonnington after that, whenever i saw a parking inspector i gave them an absolute ear full - made me feel better about it even if it achieved nothing

Lmao love it!

I know I can't prove that he was distracted, and I doubt he was, he was probably just an idiot, but how can he prove that it was my mates car, when it is not the car listed on the fine?

And in the end if he can't prove that, he can't issue a fine, correct?

Wont work in Stonnington - they will always ask for written proof... they are the filth of victoria, almost as bad as Bracksie

cant remember if the alfred is stonnington or melbourne, but either way, they are flamin mongrels... asif i am looking at signs when my partner is turning grey :S

whats to say that the parking inspector wasn't having an off momnet, wasn't concentrating... and wanted to book the ford parked behind you, but whilst writing out the ticket glanced forward at your car parked infront of it and noted your rego down... once it was printed he realised he f**ked up and then just stuck it on your car?

as once a ticket it printed, it cannot be reversed, f**kup or not.

    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
