Hi,

I just bought an R34GTR Vspec. It only has 30,000 km on it.

Firstly, it leaks about 4 to 5 drips of oil each night. I see it on the ground in the morning. What could this be? Are all oil leaks serious? For a car with such low kms i wouldnt expect it to be leaking.

Secondly, sometimes (i guess it's about once every 30 hours of driving--so not that often) when i have my foot to the floor revs will increase as normal then all of a sudden it's like it's only firing on 4 cylinders and i lose power. For example the other day i rev it to like 7000 revs in first gear, then changed into second gear and put my foot down again and immediately it was like half the cylinders weren't producing power. Sometimes ill just be driving slow, and all of a sudden it happens. The engine sound changes. Instead of it being the crisp ZZZZZZ sound of the skyline, it changes to Bop-bop-bop-bop-bop sound. Then all of a sudden it will be fine again and i get full power back and the car takes off again and the car drives for about another 20-30 hours without it happening again. Oil, water, temp, etc is always fine.

Any ideas? Thanks

the majority of oil leaks arent life threatening apart from the fact u have to keep replacing the lost oil..... oil leak could be anything.... u need to dip a bit of white paper into the puddle and find out what colour it is.... also shuv your camera under the car and take a pic of where the oil is coming from..... try and establish if its from the engine.... and if it is, things like is it coming from the front or rear, or either side.....also dont think just coz its got 30000kms on it things wont go wrong... iv seen brand new cars leak oil, or cars with 10000 blow a motor....

as for the missfire.... mate this could be any number of things....start off checking all the usual things.... check your spark plugs, your coils, all your electrical connections for the injectors, sensors and earth and get bak to us.

#1 If the oil is dripping onto the front diffuser from the front ie crank seal, it may very well be the 'Oil Pump' (or if you're lucky, the seal itself). If it is the oil pump, replace it with one of higher quality ie N1 Race-Spec at the very least. = big job

#2 If the car is already warmed up, it may be 'Coil Packs' rather than plugs (at this number of kms).

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
