hey guys,

i recently bought my r33 gts-4 and ive been working out what i need to get fixed, my mechanic mate had a good look over it and got some prices together for me. well the first problem he said was the shocks were screwed so he did some ringing around and he was being told by the manufacturers that no one makes new shocks for the gts-4, apparently the awd set up is heaps different and the only shocks u could put on it would be high performance racing ones, is this true?

he got some quotes for 2-3 thousand and i just went nuts lol considering i only paid 3 grand for the car itself lol

well thats my story guys, any advice on what to do next or anyone who might have some decent shocks lying around would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

hey mate, there arnt many companies that know much about a gts-4 they think the 4wd system means it has different suspension. I contacted TEIN and they said they dont make it then i found heaps of GTS-4's with it.

This is the rear eye mounting from my GTS-4

The rear shock is KYC brand which are reasonably priced and not racing type

My front springs are aftermarket (dont know what ones)

This is the front eye mounting

As long as you have those eye mounting GTS or GTS-t suspension will fit the r33

oh awesome, cheers for that mate, so what ur sayin is that if i can change eye mounting and i could just use any skyline shocks? cause that would save me alot of trouble lol, any ideas on how i should go about this? did u do anythin to ur car?

thanks!

nar i haven't touched the any thing to make it possible. Its bolt on just like it would be for a GTS or GTS-t. Feel free to buy '2wd' suspension (some sites will label there suspension 4wd and 2wd) but you have to remember as long as you have eye mounts to your shocks it is defiantly 2wd suspension so dont worry about ordering wrong.

fork mounting = (r33) GTR

eye mounting = (r33) all other r33 models

I think you'd have better luck fitting stagea suspension or R33 GTR suspension if R32 GTS4's are anything to go by.

The rears will be the same as a GTSt, but the front will have to account for different mounting points due to drive shafts and slightly different chassis rails.

(check out the pictures i posted to see there the exact model suspension)

hey mate, i found the exact model shocks that are on my skyline. There designed for a GTS or GTS-t which means that the GTS-4 no doubtingly has 2wd suspension. Its weird when i looked at my mountings but any GTR suspension will be different mounting and not fit so buying GTS or GTS-t suspension will be what you need.

wow awesome thanks mate! cause every suspension place ive been too keeps telling that they dont sell any shocks that fit it ay lol, they keep tellin me adjustable coilovers are the only way. so ur reckon if i bought those shocks i could just bolt em on, no problems?

cheers mate.

yeah mate, i mean that's the exact model suspension i have in my skyline so what could go wrong. It bolted straight on and i see it bolting on too yours if it has the fish eye mountings.

If you call Nissan it would be worth to find if the GTS and GTS-t has the same suspension listing as a GTS-4 for reassurance but i find it hard to believe my GTS-4 can have GTS and GTS-t suspension an no other can in the world java script:add_smilie(":(","smid_38")

just remember that when i wanted to find out i didn't even get an answer from TEIN suspension, crazy GTS-4's .......

lol yeah i know ay, well thanks for all ur help, im bidding on those ebay shocks so i guess ill just have to wait and see lol. so do u have kyb shocks on the front and rear or ur car?

sure do mate. Also i went to work today and looked at the KYB range for skyline and surprise surprise it says GTS-4 r33 have rear eye mounts so all you have to do is exclude GTR's from the catalog on that section. They are all onpadible with and without HICAS aswell so they fit all r33's except GTR's

also i read that s14 suspension is the same and the part numbers were the same from KYB so you can also look into that.

    • Oh dear. The panel beating needs to be done before the filler work. Do you have a photo of the dent before you started? Hard enough to not flex and only hit the high spots?  What do you mean it was just temporary?
    • Can u check this way it works for power supply?
    • These coils draw 10amps that what i read online
    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
