Handbrake Grip, How Do Get It Off? Lol

Recommended Posts

Are you replacing it with a aftermarket grip, like a momo one or something?

I just cut mine in half. All it is a rubber like tube covered in leather. In the middle of the tube is the actual handbrke lever itself.

Its not really attached by anything. Like I said it's just a rubber-like tube around the metal handbrake itself. I suppose when they first put it on it was greased or something to make it slide on, but I found it very difficult to get it off without cutting it. Someone else might have a better idea.

I replaced mine with an aftermarket one anyway, so I wasn't bothered.

i had the same problem, mine was tattered and looked like shit. i had a spare handbrake and just took the handbrake assembly apart and mounted the spare (better) one on the only mechanism.

ok what you have to do, is take the leather boot off

then get a thin flat head screw driver under neither the handle from behind and pry it open a bit

then get a can of WD-40 with one of those long thin nossle things and get as much under the handle as you can

then twist and it will eventually work the lubricant under and it will slide off

also what i found helpful is getting a rag and some multigrips to get a good grip on it to twist

good luck :D

Ive done it & f*** it wasnt easy lol.

I used a flat head screw driver and stabbed it in all round as deep as i could from both ends of the handle. After an hour of doing so i was able to start twisting it off.

have FUN!

these momo grips etc you guys have...

do they replace the button aswell? basically got this shithouse drift button thing that always falls out and wont always engage without f**king around with it. really annoying.

but i have no spare original button and i think the rod which the button screws onto looks rooted (ie thread is wrecked)

any links to what they are? where i can get one from?

    • Just checking; you are buying an aftermarket headlight for your V35, and the new headlight comes with a daylight running light that you want to wire in? You have the option of just not wiring the DRL in, and the new headlight will work like the old. If you want the DRL to work you will have to wire it in on the car as it wasn't delivered with one. Best way is to add a Normally Closed or Changeover relay in the car, and wire: 87a to both DRL power wires 30 to a fused ignition power source 86 to earth 85 tap into the power wire that goes to the low beam headlight Note, you cannot use the much more common Normally Open relay for this, you need the DRL to turn off when the headlight is on and vice versa.

    • Hey Kaz, Unfortunately I am not at home currently and wont be for a few more months so I do not have access to my files or CAD. And at this point I prefer to keep the files to myself as I want to potentially make a few more pairs and see if they will sell within the EU before openly marketing them. But the way it's shaped and how small it is, I don't think you can fit both an indicator and a fog light onto the same surround, unless they were very small LED-type clusters.
    • I’ve just installed a Uniclutch sport into my R32. I’ve been blown away by it… it drives like a stock Toyota Corolla. It doesn’t make sense to me that a performance clutch can drive this well. I was about to pull the trigger on a Nismo Coppermix twin plate when I discovered the Uniclutch and decided to give that a shot instead. They’ve changed the game and I couldn’t be happier.    I was previously using an Extreme cushioned button clutch with lightened flywheel. I’m still using the same lightened flywheel with the Uniclutch.
    • Mmmm no, that's a white series 2 R33 GTS-t
