hi,

i placed a topic in the performance section about been able to help people with doing the headlight conversion for cold air intake on their skylines

yes i understand you may have seen it as a business trader ad... which it was far from, because the price i placed was basically to cover costs of materials and about an hour of my time which i believe it would take 5 hours or so per light...

im not doing this because i need more work... nothing could be further from the truth

if you want to delete the thread because you thought i was making a million bucks from it thats fine but i wasnt at all....

i was simply offering it as a service and offering my skills to help the greater sau community with something which i know can be hard to source

whoever deleted it i can honestly say was seemingly a bit out of line, if they had taken the time to pm me and ask a few questions about it beforehand then if the answer wasnt up to standard then fine

but doing what has been done is just plain pathetic given all i was trying to do is help out.... how would it have been any different to anyone starting a group buy or similar

as a major moderator on another large australian site i know your probably just going to think im a whining loser and if the the case so be it... id just like to know why what was done, was done

at the end of the day its not my loss... its the sau community as a whole who lose out this time.... based on the 2 second decision by an ill informed moderator , i was only trying to help i have been an active member here for 6 years and never created any trouble.. ive gained alot from the site and i just wanted to give something back now that i am able to... is that such a bad thing??

First things first - I wasn't the one who moved it - but to call it pathetic is a bit silly and childish.

We have paying business traders to protect here. How do they know you aren't a business advertising? A Mod could have been PM'd by a concerned trader or something... its totally reasonable.

Especially considering your signature which certainly does not help matters... or the thread you have running in the QLD section which im surprised is still there :P

Regardless if its a discount or not... pay to become a trader and offer competitive pricing.

That way its all clear, above board, we have your full business details to at least try and protect members and so on.

There are a number of people over the years who've done 'off forum - cashie' type deals with users here, and they've been stung. Simple as that.

Or otherwise - setup a Group Buy using the Group Buy rules that apply to all GB's to again - try and offer some level of protection and clarity for members.

Perhaps you could have PM'd an Admin first to check if what you were doing was ok? Streets go both ways mate.

firsthly thanks for the reply....

i may not have called it pathetic if i had at least been advised of it been removed or the like.... as i said i dont have a bad history within the site so i thought it would have been nice to have been given the courtesy to let me know somehow

also ive given up on pming mods within the site as it takes days and days to get a response or action about something alot more urgent so i had no hope here with this... and even so i diddnt feel the need to

i know what youre getting at which is fine i understand , but... i have never once denied that i have my own plastic welding business nor have i tried to hide it....nor did i feel the need to as im only trying to help other members... i havent made a cent from it so if you wanna delete it seeing as im "taking advantage of the system" even though i had cleared it with col and left it to his discression, be my guest

im not going to start up as a conventional business trader as for my line of work its simply not worth it as i dont offer products like other traders costing hundreds of dollars ... its a different sorta thing but i see your point here also.....

seeing as its such a problem i have now removed all "advertising" from my profile

as ive said all along im only trying to help and offer my skills to the benefit of other members... i think its pretty sad that this is infact against the rules, i thought that what "online communities" were all about members helping other members

I never said you had to remove your signature, if you want to remove it out of spite then that is your own choice but don't go posting about it in an attempt to make us look bad.

Think from the other side for a second and you'll see what i mean.

If you were a paying business to the site, wouldn't you be asking the question to get it removed?

Wouldn't you see it very much as a business add drumming up business for a site which you pay to use?

At the end of the day you must remember this site, whilst a community, does not pay for itself.

We have to look after those people that keep the site running as it costs us over $1000/month... Just painting the other side which you seem to be largely unaware of here.

Like i said - feel free to post a GB thread in the GB section (according to the rules of the section), i have no issue with that at all as i said. That is where most 'community' stuff tends to go on anyhow.

A thread with a poll will have 100 people say "ye sweet ill do it", but actually money and mouth... you'll be lucky to get 5 people sometimes :P

thats fine i totally understand what youre getting at and yes i understand paying site traders cover the costs of the site aswell as donations....

i had just hoped people (whoever complained/moderator who deleted the thread) may have been able to see past the fact that i have my own business and see that i was only trying to help out

  • 3 weeks later...

heh, we got the same avatar. :P

I don't know the finer points on this matter as I never saw the original post, but I think it's the death of a forum when publicly viewable information is regulated by people who are financially invested/motivated.

you can say it encourages competition therfore is a good thing for the community.... but that one point alone doesn't negate the destructive effect of de-motivating joe blogs who just wants to share a bit of info with the world.

an example if clarification is needed:

if you fitted tyres everyday, after 10 years you might feel confident enough to make a helpful writeup about the business. what to buy & why... maybe even where.

you could be honest as anything, but how would it make you feel if all that was deleted in the name of "keeping a forum alive"

yeah right.. I think i'd move on to a nicer/smaller forum

in saying all that. no. I don't have a solution. but I'd rather pop-up ad's than informational regulation by big business.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
