hey there,

i have a LINK G4

took it back to my tuner (6 hr drive there, fly back, then fly back up, drive back etc etc) he is considered one, or the best tuner's in the south island (NZ) and told him to retune it, but he still could'nt get rid of it. i told him about going back to original BOV's, or put in a softer spring etc, but he said it would'nt hold at high boost (im running 19.5lbs @ 345AWKW)

i have had so many people tell me what to do, but it's kind of hard to tell someone who's job is it to tune cars to do this-that-and the other, i dont want to offend him aye.

well might try the cold air box theory...

yeah, it is hard to tell a guy who does cars for a living what to do. many of them look at customers as retards with wallets and wont take kindly to some advice you got off some kids off the internet.

BUT, i can tell you as well that for certain standard GTR BOVS that are in working order will EASILY hold 19pound and like andriano said they can hold a shitload more than that. I would be comfortable running them at up to 25 psi on small ish turbos. obviously it's not just a matter of pressure as a T51R at 25psi will need a lot more air bypassed than a pair of N1s at 25psi, but as far as just holding against the boost then it doesn't matter, pressure is pressure. bypassing/flowing enough is another thing, but the twin GTR bovs will flow a fair enough for most. failing that the big daddy trust Type R is hard to go past.

What ECU are you running?

When I put my -5s in I had the choo choo train badly. However, when I got my Vipec ECU tuned, the choo choo train is gone. It has never returned so it can be tuned out with the right ECU and tuner. And yes, I have FULL HKS hard pipe kit.

yes mine used to choof with HKS 2530's...once tuned never choofed again.

i dont give a rats arse what anybody says...it can be tuned out...mine had dual atmo BOV's and Z32 AFM's.

The only way we got my GT-RS' from choofing was to use a balance pipe manifold.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps  
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car. 
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
