Hey Guys,

I am new to this site and looking to buy my first Skyline (R33 Gts-t) and was wondering if anyone had any pointers on what to look for while purchasing one of these cars or of any good places to buy one from?

I'm looking to Buy a slightly modified 33, if anyone could shed some light it would be greatly appreciated!!!

15k will land you a very nice, clean R33 GTST with some tasteful mods. A few more grand and you can even get yourself a nice R34 GT-T.

That's the easy part.

There are 11ty billion 33s in Melbourne. Too many r33s + recession= Buyers market. You can be picky as. :)

Just get it thoroughly checked out by a reputable workshop prior to purchase and you should be sweet.

15K for a modified 33GTST will be a little hard mate. any modified car you get its best you go over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure your not buying a dudd. and for that budget im sorry to say this but it will be hard trying to find a nice clean well looked after modified car.

being your first R33 why not try looking for a stock R33 series 2 skyline? you can get a nice clean one for around 12-15K and mod it your self.

main thins to look for is the service history of the car, if its been well kept, quality parts used, engine condition. prop best to do a compression test. if you want get the turbo checked out for shaft play at the same time.

but being your first skyline don’t by a modded 33 at that budget as a first car. or increase your budget.

Im not sure what cars you have previously owned but make sure you are careful if you do buy a modified skyline as your first one....They can be a handful if you don't drive them sensibly.

I agree with ashneel, buy a stockish one and then modify it yourself, that way you know whats been done to it and can work your way up from there. That what i did and im glad i chose that option rather then buying a modified one straight up.

Either way make sure you test drive a handful so you can compare them and find a good condition skyline!!

At least that way you know the mods that are going ON the car are decent quality parts also. Look as critically as you can - there are many, many 33s out there atm that arent even worth looking at cuz theyve been abused by careless owners :iluvff:

there are good number of modified 33s with great mods which will save you a bucket load i.e. >20k so why not look at those? These days buying a stock r33 is a waste of money as so many good ones avalibale at incremental cost.

Yes and no.

You can save money but at the same time is just a waste of money in itself. Who knows what the previous owner has done to the car, If there were short cuts or the mechanics who worked on the car were even legit. Could of been a backyard job for all you know.

Purchasing a stock R32/R33 or whatever Juzzy wants, Means he can get a clean example of a stock R33 in a certain price range then look at what he wants then go ahead and modify it how he wants. At least then HE knows what hes done and whose done the work.

Ill be looking at a stockish R32/R33 for cheap then throwing out 15k on it mainly for the fact I want to watch the process take shape and know that MY mechanic has done the work; Not some first year Immigrant named Habib.

dood the generic stuff is a bit old. who say's you dont know what and who has modified it? if yu dumb enough to buy it without a known histroy then thats the buyers issue.

again, there are many good modified gtst's out there many from this club from known workshops. Total waste of money starting from stock and spending anotehr 20-30k on mod over a few years for a car worth 10k stock these days. Like many of the more serious owners like myself who HAVE done this an are running 300+kw gtst's with all the mods and I would not do it again to this car. I would buy a well modified upfront, save 10-15k and go from there.

totally agree

you should be able to find a clean, well modded R33 GTSt for 15K easily... my mate bought his 6 years ago for 14K... also ask around at some of the more reputable workshops, they may know of customers in the market to sell their cars

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.      
    • roller coaster of a ride. Alarm system was removed & main harness was repaired where possible. still no fix just random successful starts. moved on to the replacing the ignition switch and relay. well all this troubleshooting & repair has been going on, the car is at a paint and body shop being pushed around. Ive been going down there on odd days after work to get it sorted.     
    • 5th November if you want to come out for a spin wakfield
    • PROBLEM WAS BROKEN COOLANT SENSOR!!! Replaced with a new one and its running mint.
