Ok people, it's around that time again! I've been chatting with a few of you, and there's plenty of interest, so let's work something out...

I'll get this frst post updated to reflect confirmed details, but in the meantime, here's the rough plan:

Early morning - meet at the Gold Coast Coomera BP or Mudgeeraba Shell (someone from Brisbane can work out earlier northern meet points to coincide). We drive south to Byron bay/Murwillumbah (the old raods were a great drive, but I will need to do a recce run to confirm their condition), with a short stop for refreshments and fuel (Byron BP would be a logical choice).

From there, we take some nice back roads North to the Gold Coast (using parts of the route from my first meet: great roads!), and terminate at Southport for a Bbq/chitchat/drinks at GreenGhost's place (thanks Myles!) which has plenty of parking (it's in an industrial estate) in the early afternoon.

Dates will need to be negotiated, and the route/destinations can be altered as required: I know it's a hike for the Brissie folk...

I'm thinking early August, but what do you guys think? It would be really good to have Darrinspencer's car at this one, so I'd like to make it coincide with the completion of his project...

Our last few meets have been pretty good, but have come apart a little at the endpoint: I figure if we have a private property to go to, we're not going to be fighting for bbqs and car spots like we have on the other meets, and since we went North last time, it'll make a nice change... This way, for a small cost per person, we can have food and refreshments ready to go...

Date: locked in by Micah as Sunday the 20th of September, 2009

Time:

  • 8.00am for an 8.20am departure.

Nothing like some pressure!!

Will be ready by the end of August for the VW Jamboree, so maybe early September for a meet??

I would definately be interested, if its hapnin mid september I can make it. Won't be back in the country till then. I got friends down in mullum and my GF's beetle is being worked on down there so could coincide with it being ready to be picked up.

Would love to make it along anyways-

:-)

dont forget the WRC is on that weekend in northern NSW :)http://rallyaustralia.com/

but if your in the area i will be competing in ATC (www.duttonrally.com) that holds the final round on the WRC super special stage

free the following weekend though :)

Ok: 20/09/09 it is! Mods: please get my post title to reflect this.

I'll need confirmations to include the number of passengers/kids coming with attendees, so we can organise the Bbq and drinks.

As usual, please pm me with your contact details.

This is going to be a good one :D;)

Cheeers guys,

Micah

    • After @Kinkstaah debacle, I'd never want to try and get it right 😛
    • The hood lines up with the fenders. The front bar doesn't perfectly line up with the fenders where the wheel arch is. You have to 'squeeze' the front bar 'in' as it wants to naturally flare out and be longer on the sides. There's a few threads where people notice this when they only swap a GTR style bumper and front bar. Unless you have genuine OEM items - you may be better served getting conversion kits. There are GTT bumpers to fit GTR hoods. There are GTR hoods (non genuine) to fit the GTT bracketry. MAY
    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
    • So far so good, about 30km on it so far and nothing out of sorts yet thankfully
    • Look at @Kinkstaah's thread on the issue.
