Hey guys,

Instead of making a new thread, I thought I'd post this. One of the members on SAU by the name of Chook, is ordering in some Asuka TV Tuners. It's not a group buy, but if you want to order one, please send him a PM.

He is selling these for $240 plus another $50 if you want aerials. You will also need adapting leads which can be purchased from Chris Rodgers to complete the install.

He will be ordering soon so get in quick:)

Basic SD digital tuner (hawk ranger II), twin receiver/tuner paths, 2 x AV inputs, 3 x video out. Reverse camera switching. Been running one in my Stagea for 2 years with factory aerials (4), along with a few doz other stag owners, rock solid pic 40-50km radius. The optional aerials are the long T-type (bumper) active ones.

specialised mobile dig tv manufacturer.

anyone after one, PM me in next few days.

Hey Chook,

I am very interested in purchasing a unit from you with antennas. I am just purchasing the car this week. But what do I need to do to get this working ? I am not the greatest when it comes to car audio but I have some mates that know a little, so if its kind of straight forward ie: similar to Aus car media setup, they could probably help me out.

Does anybody know whats the rough price on getting a Garmin or similar Navigation unit working on the existing screen ?

As I have it software to change menus into English = $180

Asuka Digital TV Tuner with Antennas = $290 ( I believe this is SD is there a HD option, would it be worth it ? )

Installation of TV Tuner = ?

Garmin Navigation Unit = ?

Installation of Navigation System = ?

English Control Buttons = ?

If anyone could help me fill in the gaps above , I would be greatly appreciated , Sorry to sound tight but its been a big month...

Theres some basic instructions here for the older Stagea, http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St...ig-t203961.html , but im sure some V35 or M35 owners can give you more specific info. I dont think the screen has the resolution to make HD worthwhile, correct me if im wrong. Ill send you some more info in PM.

Thanks for the link , Sorry I am unable to send a PM as I am new.

When do you need payment for 1 of these units ?

Any idea how much the leads cost through Chris Rogers and does that include the additional relay to power the antenna amplifiers ?

Cheers

Youll need to contact Chris for that, any auto store will sell a 12V relay, bosch, hella narva etc no more than 30amp http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/normal-open-4-5

well on first look the Asuka hawk ranger II looks slimmer than HiTV. about half.

you have the older HITV unit. they are slimmer but I still favor the HITV box myself. have used both (the asuka is used by GME) inthe past and there are places where the asuka shines and then places that the HITV outdoes it.

antenna placement is critical on both. the HITV box has a bit more punch when it comes to powering up antennas. lately I have been using a amplified shark fin on them. in metro areas it works quite well regional up to 60km out if I have line of site to the towers.

as for the input leads - depends on the yen. $60-80 is the norm and I have them in stock here.

the last three requests there ARE NOT diy friendly. I do those on a turn key basis and you are well into the $2k mark.

the navi language part of thing that is for the licence only. if you take it to me for example I may also charge for time.

the screen on that car will struggle with HD - the normal option is fine. if you want HD stay at home. also if you intend to do the obvious - you will need a lockout device as well.

Chris,

Would you send me some info on how I may complete what I want in a couple of stages so I don't have a huge outlay straight off eg. TV tuner & FM Band Expander first then the Nav install and Conversion when I have a bit more cash.

You would be the one to know if its not worth the extra labour fee in having youself or somebody you recommend do 2 installs ?

Thanks

none of this is DIY. I cannot stress this enough.

the band expander is $65 in parts to do properly. if you are handy with a screwdriver there is enough info on the forum (and by me) to fit that yourself.

TV tuner. up to you. again if you are handy wityh a screwdriver you can do this.

the rest - no. where are you?

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
