Any Problems With 9 Inch Rims On Front Of R33gtst?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if you can run into any problems running 17x9 rims on the front of an R33GTST?

I know they fit but I've heard of people having problems with 9 inch fronts when set up for track e.g. running out of room for camber adjustment, rub etc. I am buying some wheels for track days (G-max Drift6) and was told to go the staggered setup.

Would 17x8 front and 17x9 rear be the ideal track set up over 17x9 all around on an R33GTST?

Any help from the SAU guru's much appreciatedgeek.gif

I am running 18x9.5 +20 on my r33 Gtst Circuit car. running -3.5deg camber and 7deg caster with no problems at all.

Thanks mate

I thought if I had 17x9 all around it would be good for grip + rotation etc

These wheels are +35 I think

Decisions...

i run 17x9s on my R33 on the track. They certainly fill the front guards, looks like they will scrape but they never do, even under hard braking and cornering with R compound semi slicks.

Not sure what offset they are, but they are Advan Lights, the tri spoke ones

You have not mentioned what offset the rims are or what tyres you will be running.

Why the g-Max's? I would be weary of buying a brand of rims that does not even list their offsets on their website for their rims. They also state "This wheel is also available in 17x8 and 17x9 for Nissan Silvia S13" :) Great information.....

Offset already mentioned above mate...

+35 (all Drift6 wheels are +35 apparently)

Tyres: 245/70/17 front 255/40/17 rear

The website is not the best but it's their wheels I'm interested in - not their web designer!

Why the G-max?

Pretty easy really - while everyone else is running around spending 3-5k+ on gay, ridiculously over priced, forged, Japanese wheels (i.e. over paying for a name & some flashy website) or 1.5k+ for heavy cast copies...

G-max (an Australian company) make a one-piece forged wheel (the Drift6, made in the same factory as BuddyClub forged rims) that I can buy a brand new set of for $1200!

The 17x9 weighs 8.5kg and they have a full Australian warranty + liability insurance etc

If you can show me a better deal on a set of brand new forged wheels on this planet then I'm all ears buddy

Oh and they look tough as! :/

i run 17x9 +22 all round on my 33 gtst.. u should be fine especially if your running neg camber but i'm not heavily lowered and +35 might be a bit close to fouling on something suspension wise so just trial fit first or something.

fyi, i run the drift 6 8" on all four. light as fruk and like you say, i'd rather spend money on going faster than jdm bling.

using the calculator here http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

13mm less clearance on the inside would come close to the suspension, 13mm on the outside would be easy with rolled guards. the 8" are

very close to the lip on the guard right now.. though with more camber you could get away with it.

Thanks again guys

The wheel place is going to stick it up on a hoist & have a look for themselves...

It sounds like it could be a pretty close call & I think the guys at the shop have run into difficulties with a similar setup on an R33 before. Anyway I'm going to take the car in this arvo so will let you know what the outcome is.
