i highly important update!

when driving to VIC/QLD its all about comfort

anyway

the 99 patrol TI is GONE......she has been upgraded to a 2004 Prado grande

anyway this is a major improvement for my fat arse comfort on those long drives to race tracks!

first toyota 4wd

i think i am gay~!

ill have this till the new patrol comes out with the vk 56 v8

then its time for a upgrade

patrol to prado is a downgrade, not an upgrade

disagree... salesman here at work used a patrol 4x4 turbo diesel to tow machines around... went through turbos like nothing else and eventually blew the engine... plus noisy and not very comfortable..

prado grande's are the shiz... not the best, .. like a 120ser v8 cruiser.. but pretty damn comfy and quiet.. grande is top notch... well done fatz.. just dont throw them around corners... they chew the outside of the tyres.. and 17" 4wd tyres arent cheap... and no you cannot put 16s on it.. sooo many tightarses have asked me if you can change the brakes and shit over to hilux stuff so you can put 15" hilux wheels on..

yea no complaints about the beast… it’s a massive hit with the soccer mums

Patrols are better towers, but the prado is nicer to drive

i would have got a 4.2 TD patrol but they are worth more jebus!

+ im getting used to the Prado's lifeless steering

:)

only other down side is all the electronics… in the patrol you would get bogged and get out of it by the age old Simpson’s technique of old fashioned flooring (shit loads of fun)… in the Prado the computers get to work so the car gets itself bogged, then the computers have a think, then some how it gets itself un-bogged (very weird feeling), the down hill decent control is shithouse. I even put it on wet grass and tried to turn the traction control off and do some wet grass circle work (well it is Bathurst weekend!) but no the computers said they didn’t like that and shut me down!

Having done 300km total in it now I consider myself an expert!!!! Best part is in the patrol I would have had to fill it up already (stupid gas)

Ive named it roger!, cause it’s a bit camp!

    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
    • Yeah, I would have said the same. It makes me suggest that there are other things wrong, such that the ECU is totally unhappy with the broken sensor. The only other thought here is that maybe it is shorted, which might cause a different issue to the typical "disconnected" sensor.
