ali-turko
hey guys i thought i would show you guys the bonnet struts for my r32 gtr i made today i bought a set of 300zx bonnet struts off ebay and to modify them abit, wasnt to hard took me bout 3 hours the only problem is with r32 gtr bonnets is cause they only weigh 7kgs these struts a bit to high pressured for it, im currently trying to source ones with abit less pressure Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284573-custom-r32gtr-bonnet-stuts/ Share on other sites

Craved
what strength struts did you use? i got myself some 150NM ones, found the closed/open measurements online. just hoping there is clearance on the r33's for them. try and get them installed tomorrow Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284573-custom-r32gtr-bonnet-stuts/#findComment-4860919 Share on other sites
Craved
well got mine installed, just in the process of building some better mounting points for them as the single bolt doesnt hold them well enough. mad082
why does everyone mount them like that? if i was going to do it i would have them mounted further back so they point more upwards like a falcon or even the ceffy. that way they make it a bit easier to lean into the engine bay if you have to work on something at the back on the engine Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284573-custom-r32gtr-bonnet-stuts/#findComment-4862623 Share on other sites
Craved
all a matter of leverage and the compression lengths of the struts i looked at mounting them on the inside wheel well, basically there isnt enough room for the struts to compress and be open enough when the bonnet is open. Munkyb0y
ie. you'd need a shorter overall strut to mount them that way, yeah? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284573-custom-r32gtr-bonnet-stuts/#findComment-4862646 Share on other sites
Craved
you can get the struts shorter - but that only lets you move the body mount back 45mm from the current bonnet position when you think about angles and leverage - the more upright you go the stronger the struts need to be to hold the bonnet up. that moves onto other issues of bonnex flex when trying to close it. i'll make some calls tomorrow when things open, get some prices on custom struts that might just work with a new idea i just had Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/284573-custom-r32gtr-bonnet-stuts/#findComment-4862721 Share on other sites
