Hey guys, recently having followed this tutorial: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/To...20&start=20 in order to install a bosch 040 in my r33 s2, I've come across the problem of not being able to get the pump cradle to clip back onto the bracket. It seems as if the pump is hitting the bottom of the fuel tank and the cradle clip cannot get to the bracket. I've tried various ways to position the pump in the tank but no luck! I'm a bit confused as many people have installed bosch 040s on r33s in the past?!

Has anyone experienced this problem? Help Please, I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks.

I havnt personaly done it as i went the nismo fuel pump but I would think that you would have to allign the new pump with the bootom of the old pump but not alligned with the filter just the pump itself, is that what you did?

Hmm i fitted mine lower. Ill try re-do it now.

how does it compare to the position of the orignal fuel pump. So have you been able to get it onto the bracket and then just not able to push down on it all the way or cant you get it on the bracket at all

the new pump sits a lot lower than the original pump did on the cradle. I cant get it on the bracket at all.. it seems like the pump is hitting the bottom of the tank. I've tried almost every angle possible. but no luck.

here's a little trick. take the fuel hose off so the pump is free to move. tie it onto the cradle with a cable tie, but only tight enough so it wont fall off, but loose enough so the pump can move up and down with slight effort. now put it into the tank, and it should hit the bottom of the tank, and will slide up the bracket. then pull the whole thing out again, and move it up the bracket another few mm, pull that cable tie tight, and add ring clamps or whatever you're using to secure it (and the fuel hose of course). it should now be sitting just higher than the base of your tank.

Ok slow down, your confusing me with what your calling the bracket and the cradle. Also, the picture i have shown in my previous post shows the highest point which the fuel pump will go on the cradle, having the top of the fuel pump touching the solid fuel line on the cradle. Will i need to modify my cradle?

From memory I had to remove the solid line all together from mine, and go direct from the lid of the tank to the pump.

Thanks mate  , i was thinking i would have to do something along those lines.

Ill give it a go.

I found with mine there was a small channel running to the bottom of the tank. Run your hand along the bottom of the tank and you should find it. Follow this while your pushing the pump in and it should fit. I had to force mine a little bit but once it's in it's in.

HMMMM cant manage the get the fuel pump any higher up on the cradle than shown.

You will definitely have to remove the solid line mate....a mate of mine was having the same problem....make sure you mount it in the exact position as to the stock one....when i did mine i had no problems at all...35mins and it was all done....

goodluck with it

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
