Hi Everyone,

The DriftZ will be racing at Oran Park this Sunday 20th September in the Drift Australia series which is televised on Channel 9, SBS and Foxsport.

During the "Off Season" we have made quite a few changes to the 300zx Gen 3 turbo setup, which included a custom wide body kit, wider wheels, custom made chrome moly steering arms, etc.

We finally got the boost under control and took it to Sam's Performance so Sam could have a fiddle with the tune. He ended up making another 21rwkw for us on a safe tune and low boost - under 6psi.

New coilovers and steering arms have helped to keep it stable and controllable on the track, and the wide body kit has allowed us to widen the track with wider wheels which gives us more traction and drive out of the corners.

Our driver, Dan Mackie, has had an ankle operation, and his wife is expecting another baby 1 week after the race, so he hasn't had any practise in the car. With all the mods, I hope he gets used to the car pretty quickly. Just like riding a bike - I hope !!!

This year they are running a competition at the track to give away a fully prepped drift Car, there will be 1/10th scale remote controlled Drift Cars, as well as a Car Show and Sound Off.

Tickets are available through Ticketek and are cheaper than buying them at the gates.

If you make it out to the track, come and say hello.

Cheers

Greg

Wow...Just..wow.

That thing looks like an ugly fish out of water.. a fat..ugly...fish.

Dear god, I just threw up a little.

ACtually, I have to edit this.

Words can't describe how ugly this is.

Or shit.

Dear god.

Edit: Please drift it into the nearest wall.

Hey, I get it's a unique piece of machinery.

I don't mind the LS1 in the 300zx.. I had the pleasure of seeing this car when it was out at a friends business (textrailia).

I don't mind the turbo setup either, I can definitely appreciate the effort that's gone into the car from a conversion point of view.

I don't mind the 300zx shape, nor the styling of the car as standard, when it had the old paint job it looked ok, and maen

The issue I have with it, is that 2 dudes sucking each other off while f**king 2 other dudes would look less gay than the car does at the moment, hell, it's gayer than docking... It's stupidly bad. Like come on! They've destroyed a car that used to look tough, and instead it now looks like a riced up 12 year olds plaything.

Sorry, I respect the car, not the recent work.

does it matter? its a drift car? Besides there are more pink drift cars than any other colour, so i dont find it gay looking. Its ugly yes, but most drift cars are quite ugly.

Doesn't mean its not an awesome car and it does its job better than most others...

*edit* actually looking back at it i dont think its ugly, the blue paint doesnt suit the carbon fibre

ahh thats only in aus and america.. all the japanese cars look freaking awesome.. aussies just cant get their shit together when it comes to appearence except for the d1 garage cars and a few privateers.. wheels are all wrong offsets.. tyre profiles are all too big, cars arent low enough, colours are too freaky looking.. like cats yellow/blue/pink s13.. wtf?? where the matt black gone?? where are the bolt on flares?? where are the wheels that just squeeze inside the guards??

all aus drift cares about these days is power.. no finesse anymore.. i blame this all on robbie bulger.. private club days are better than the national series now.

but that 300zx is fugly aye.. whats with all the bonnet scoops?? and the tiny little intercooler in that huge front bar?? and whats with the flat as rear bar?? and whats wrong with the 300zx tail lights?? each to their own.. but seriously.

seriously how hard is it to make a car look phat.

seriously wtf they're drift cars who cares what they look like ?? It's like criticizing F1s about their lack of subwoofers..get a clue.

I missed this and was so looking forward to going .. Anyone know when it will be televised on either FTA or foxtel ?

Beacause and NA Auto Supra is a HEAP more unique mate!

At least these boys are building something.. and their drifting with Australias best.. which is far more impressive than your key board worrioring is.

Rule number 1 of almost all forms of life.. you never bad mouth any one for their efforts.

What have youa complished in your life?.. Even half as much as them?

Didnt think so.. Keep your rude and unproductive comments to yourself.

Wow, What a massive weekend, I'm still stoked!

Sureflo Exhaust put together a great car this weekend, that almost made the distance, 4th is an amesome result and it's great to have had some good luck for once.

Thanks must go to the car crew for the weekend, Team Owner Greg Stevenson was even in there making sure evereything ran smoothly, fueling, tyre changes, cleaning things, car fluids, and camera's, jack of all trades on the weekend! Russ was doing everything, even though he is only medically allowed to lift 10kg's he kept doing more and will have quite substaintial pain now for the week or so, thanks mate. James came down to get a taste of the drift competition and was invaluable in his assistance, having a fellow driver in the pit crew I highly recomend. Caz has a sore back, but did little jobs and kept us all fed and watered. Kirk took pictures early, but couldn't stay out of the pits once we made the Top 4! Thanks to Steve for your help on Saturday, it was a shame you didn't make it on the Sunday, but I guess the chief won that "chat"

We can't race without our Sponsors either, so thank you very much to everyone who has stuck with us through all the bad luck, Sureflo Exhaust, Caz Racing, Speedshot's, Textralia, and Sam's Performance.

Also a big thanks to those that joined us this year, Federal Tyres (Awesome hoops, I'll be running these for Circuit racing also) and Balistic Cat's and Mufflers.

And although she will problably never read it I have to thank my 8 1/2 month pregnant wife Jody for putting up with all this racing caper for so many years, and for letting me travel all over the country. I love you baby, and always will

Thanks also must go to the supporters, you guys keep us going. I didn't have a lot of time to chat to you guys, but thank you for coming out and I hope you all keep supporting us.

Stay Sidewayz Kidz!

Dan.

who cares what they look like?? well their sponsers for one.. if you have are advertising on a less than attractive car.. then you mayswell be advertising on the under carridge of a bus.. this is the top level of drift in this country.. the factory teams with sponsorship should atleast be able to tie together a car that is nice on the eye..

theres nice looking cars that are beat up.. cable ties and duct tape.. then there is just weird looking.

everyone knows the knight sports cars because they had the really nice bodykits, big wheels, and chrome stickers on black paint. everyone knows the supermade cars because of their candy red paint and black roofs, and their big wheels.. and if a young fitter and turner can produce some of the most rocking cars that from both a cosmetic and engineering level are absolute masterpieces that amplify the cars factory lines and really look and perform awesome.. lots of drift cars look awesome.. and the ugliness makes them sometimes.. just gives that little bit extra to show its being properly driven.

drift is all about style, flair and showing off.. to go to such an effort with the above 300zx and to not have it turn out so cleanly as some of the other cars in the comp has turned me away from it which is unfortunate for its sponsers, of whom im not sure are because i havent really taken interest in it.

im not bagging on the workmanship of the car, or it ability to drift.. or the drivers ability to control it.. im just saying from my viewpoint, as a drifter from long time ago, that this car is not a stand out for the right reasons and is not encouraging me to buy its sponsers products.

id rather go watch GTS4WD have a ball of fun and watch him improve over the day and watch his car develop over time. which is what drifting is all about.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
